I have a Samsung S7 edge, and I cannot receive any notifications.  Is my phone not compatible?

It should work ok as it's on the list of supported phones at www.fitbit.com/devices

 

Try going through fitbit's troubleshooting guide for notification issues at https://help.fitbit.com/articles/en_US/Help_article/1610/

 

By the way, what fitbit do you have?
