One fitbit, one android phone, two accounts?

I did try some searches in the forum, but couldn't quite find something that answered my question. Apologies if I missed it.

I have been enjoying using a fitbit inspire 2 with the app on my android phone. I'm ready to take a break and let my daughter use the fitbit. I'd like her to wear it so that we can track her sleep. I'd still like to get her fitbit data on my same android device.

My daughter DOES have a gmail address, so I assume I can create another fitbit account for her that we can continue to review stats for on my phone.

However, it's not clear to me what steps I need to take to disassociate the fitbit from my account, and associate it with her new account. When I click on my google profile icon at the top of the fitbit app, I am able to choose "add account," and it allows me to put my daughter's gmail address in. However, that doesn't appear to create a new fitbit account; it just puts HER google profile pic at the top of MY fitbit account, with all my fitbit stats.

How can I create a NEW fitbit account for her, using my same android device, and the same fitbit inspire 2? I will end up taking the fitbit back, and I'll want to access my account stuff again, but I just want to disconnect for like a month.

Do I need to do something with family link (which I've never used). Or the "set up your family" feature? Or is there some other obvious way to log out of my account and use a different account for my daughter, but all from my own android phone?

Thanks for any insight!

I'm assuming our daughter is at least age 13, or you are at least pretending that she is, or else she will not be able to use the Inspire 2.

First force a sync; that will get all your current data into your master fitbit database stored under your fitbit ID/email.  Then from Today screen of phone app, tap gear icon at top right to take you to Settings page.  Scroll to bottom and tap red "Log Out" will get you out of your user name.  I think that partially hidden "Log Out" was probably the key that you were missing.

Then I've never actually done next step but don't foresee any problems.  Just log back in with daughter's email and I suppose will ask to go through setup questions for her as a new user.  And should be able to switch back and forth any time like that just by logging out of one user name and in with the other.

If she is under 13, you can add her under family account and you would both be able to have fitbits at same time, but she would have to have an Ace family tracker, newest is Ace 3, which has some limitations.

Thank you for the response! My daughter is in fact 13. She turns 14 within the month, but does not have her own smart phone.

I actually ended up making a new account for her on her mother's phone, rather than mine. I was able to logout on my phone, and then pair the fitbit with her mom's phone. However, once I set it up, it asked me if I wanted to use the Premium membership, and of course I'd like to use the free premium membership trial that came with device (it is supposed to have a 12-month membership and I got it about 2 months ago). However, when I try to sign up, it says she is not eligible for the free trial. Does that mean the free trial is only associated with my account, and not the device itself? Also, will I be able to use the remainder of the free account when I start using the fitbit on my account again?

Sorry, I don't know.  From what you say, I am guessing it is for the combination of device/user with the idea Premium doesn't pass along if you sell it.  Now about going back to the original user, no idea.  Easiest way to find out to give it a quick try if not too difficult to arrange.  Although might just want to wait until after the month or so to see.  If it doesn't work, my guess, and just a guess on my part, is this was not Fitbit's intent and it might be worth calling  Fitbit support to explain the situation.  My guess would be that it would be just that it was just intended to prevent Premium from being passed along if the Fitbit was permanently given away or sold.  But really I'm just guessing here.  I really don't know - guessing this is a situation that usually doesn't come up.

P.S.  I was just told by someone knowledgeable that Premium is associated with your account and you will get Premium back when you get the Fitbit back to your account.

@nealneal the premium is connected to the users account as @JohnnyRow mentioned premium has already been activated, and why you could not sign your daughter up. You still have your full premium trial, even if you use an older fitbit model.

If you want to take the fitbit back from your daghter, turn bluetooth off on moms phone, now setup the tracker to your account on your phone. .

On moms phone, turn back on Bluetooth and remove the tracker as a trusted fitbit device. Failure to do this may result in you also receiving moms notifications when Mom's phone is nearby
