Pixel Watch 3 showing different steps number to Fitbit Andriod App

Hi everyone, hope you are well.

First time post and got an issue!

I have had a Pixel Watch 1 since Jan 23, and have had no issues with it, then approx 4-5 days ago after a treadmill session, I noticed the number of steps compared to the steps on the Andriod App did not match. This was frustrating on Thursday 5th September where despite hitting over 15k steps, my app recorded it as less then 15k, I was on a 3 week streak!

I didn't make much of the issue for the past few days, as I had the Pixel Watch 3 pre-ordered which arrived today and I've switched across.

But yet the issues continues.

Right now, this is what it is showing:

Andriod App: 13,939

Pixel Watch 3 Face: 15K

When I click on Steps on Watch: 14,979

What have I tried?:

Reboot both the phone (Pixel 9 Pro Fold) and the Watch

Delete Cache and Data on the Andriod App

Delete the app and reinstall and re-link on Andriod

Delete Cache and Data on Watch App and relink

I am at a loss now! Any help or guidance would be appreciated.

Yeah, happening here. Im happier with the number on the watch, because it gives me more LOL, but a tad frustrating since it's a difference of nearly 2,000 steps

Yesterday I had an app update on my Pixel watch 3 and now it is perfect and exactly the same

I have had at least one Fitbit app update since posting and sadly, for me at least, my watch and app are still not marrying up. Right now, after a manual sync from my watch and again separately on the app, the app is showing 65 steps more than the watch.

I have never experienced this before and I have had the Pixel Watch and Pixel Watch 2 in the past.

I am currently using: Pixel 9 Pro Fold, Pixel Watch 3 45mm, Fitbit App version 4.26

I thought I was going crazy. Exactly the same has happened to me. Averaging over 10,000 steps per day through to end of August then suddenly overnight it went to around 9,800.

Today my watch says 14,700 and the Fitbit App less than 12,000 so something is definitely amiss.

Glad I found this forum. Fingers crossed they sort it out soon

Having same issues lately.  Pixel watch shows 19,000+ steps and Fitbit app on Pixel phone show 18,450 steps.  What gives?!!

I have the same but seems to be the opposite of most people here.  My app is showing more activity than the watch.

Eg.today the pixel watch 3 is showing 14710 steps and 4352 calories and the app of the pixel 9 pro is showing 23690 steps and 4i08 calories.

Quite a difference..I have the app connected to both phone and watch. Suspect the phone is recording odd numbers when it's with me when I'm on the bike..I'm using Strava to record activity there which then syncs back to Fitbit

Never had problems with pixel 7 pro and pixel watch 1

Hello @Cpt_Offensive

Fitbit has the option of using your phone to track steps and exercise when you're not wearing your device, aka Mobile Track. This help page (<-- click link) explains the feature.

However, some users get additional steps when they have the phone as a connected device in the Fitbit app since its tracking steps in addition to the Pixel watch/Fitbit device. It sounds like this is the source of your additional steps.

You might try removing your phone as a connected device and seeing if your steps are more in sync between your watch and the app.

Thanks. This seems to have solved it for me😁

I can remove the phone and the sync does improve; however having both
devices connected is really useful for times when the watch is charging but
I have the phone with me (admittedly this is becoming less of an issue with
the better battery life and quicker charging on the 3 vs 1) and this wasn't
an issue previously on the watch 1 and pixel pro 7

In the same boat, facing the same issue.

Watch 3 shows  4.4k steps, on 9 Pro XL, 0 steps. Turned off phone activity tracking yesterday, still the same issue.
Same with the number of floors, distance, calories!

Tried connecting with the fitbit support team, they have no idea when the issue is going to be resolved. Annoying...

Would you mind sharing the app version?

Hey,

Would you be able to detail how I remove..my.phone as a connected device? I can't seem to find where to do it within the Fitbit app.

Thanks in advance!

Hey Jogger. In the app click on the Fitbit battery icon in the top left
corner of the screen. It will load another screen showing both the watch
and the phone if both are connected (if not, you can connect the phone from
that screen)

I also have the step count problem with my just-purchased Pixel Watch 3 but --even more frustrating-- is that autosync to the Fitbit app won't work. I can manually sync.. Of course, support says that this is a "known problem." Has ANYONE with a Pixel Watch 3 been able to autosync? BTW I have a Google Pixel 7 phone.. As others on these boards have commented it seems like support for Fitbit has gone significantly downhill since Google purchased it.

to be fair, raphaekg, I've been using Fitbit since the Charge 2 and the
support has always been pretty hit and miss, There are some issues that
I'd seen since day one which had actually got resolved only more recently.

FWIW, I've seen a couple of users report that Support told them an update to the Fitbit app will start rolling out on 26 Sep 2024. Hoping that this information is accurate and the app update will fix many of the recent issues.

I know we're also still waiting for the Pixel Watch September update that usually rolls out at the beginning of the month. I'm wondering if the delay has been due in part to the Fitbit issues. I guess we should find out soon if the watch update starts rolling out shortly, if not on the same day, after the Fitbit app update rolls out.

Thanks for the information RiekoC.

Thanks for your perspective, Cpt_Offensive. I have had some type of Fitbit tracker since 2015, predating the Charge 2 (I am pretty sure). Maybe it is a function of time and change in resources put toward customer support in all businesses rather than a Google problem per se. Nevertheless, for someone who has used a Fitbit-branded fitness tracker for so long, I was astonished by a current policy that requires a customer to return a defective tracker and wait for several weeks before a new tracker would even shipped. That is a Google-specific policy, I believe. It does not make sense for a device that is intended to be used daily. Plus, downtown on the Fitbit app was terrible for a long time after Google revised the app. Despite all these problems, I recently bought a Google Pixel 3 watch, so it shows that I am still hoping that things improve.

Thank you for that information, RiekoC. I am hoping it is correct, because the last customer service rep with whom I spoke told me that he had "no idea" when a new version of the app will roll out.
