What the heck?
I thought I posted a reply to this so that I can add my information to this issue.
- Huawei Mate 9 - build MHA-L29 8.0.0.366(C567)
- EMUI version 8.0.0
- Android 8.0.0 (March 1,2018 Security Patch)
- Getting same "Notification Service not running. A phone restart is required" message in the Fitbit App.
- Fitbit version 2.70
- Alta HR (FW 26.26.63.2)
- All phone notifications not working (calls, text, calendar)
I've tried following:
- Went into all notification settings for the Fitbit app and set everything to allow.
- Set battery/power saving features to OFF so no power saving features kicks in.
- I've uninstalled/reinstalled the Fitbit app while being sure to unpair BT beforehand.
What seems to me, is that after a reboot of the phone, alerts come through for a short time... then something happens and the notification service feature with the Fitbit app stops working.

Thank you so much for the details that each of you have mentioned. I've seen that some of you have said that are using non compatible devices, the reason why this may be showing is because your phone isn't listed as compatible.
I've noticed in the past that users are able to sync or receive notifications with non compatible devices. However, since they aren't in the list. I can't confirm they will always sync or completely work with Fitbit. If anyone is using a compatible device and getting this error message, please provide me with the model and app version that you're using.
Keep me posted!

HI everyone, my apologies for the late response. I'm wondering how it goes. Since this issue was brought to our attention, we released a new version of the Fitbit app in Android devices. I'm pretty sure you have this version already, so I would like to ask how it goes so far? Is the issue still persisting?
This new version contains stability improvements that might help to address this issue. Also we have received other reports of issues with notifications that we are already investigating. For more context, review our dedicated post to see if this is not your scenario.
If the issue continues and the app keep showing the same error, please let me know the Android version you are using? The mobile phone model and the tracker you have paired to your Fitbit Dashboards?
See you until the next opportunity.

It does need sorting as they can't expect people to keep restarting their phone

Pretty much the same error here. On a seemingly random basis I get the "notification service not running, restart your phone to enable notifications" message. Sometimes if I restart it errors again almost straight away, sometimes it will work for hours or once for almost a day. One time I got the message right before going to bed, couldn't be bothered to restart and just tossed the phone on the table. Next morning it woke me up with a notification! Basically it's just not reliable and so doesn't do what the product description claims. Right now it's working - in an hour's time, who knows?

Hi RobertoFitbit, I am still experiencing the issue of notifications not being sent to my fitbit device. I don't see the warning about the notification service not working, but test notifications are never received by the fitbit.

Fitbit App: 2.71, May 1 2018
Phone: OnePlus 5T
Phone OS: Oxygen OS 5.1.1

Edit to my prior message:
I rebooted my phone, and now I have a notification -
"Restart your phone to restore tracker notifications.
Fitbit cannot forward Android notifications to your tracker. Restart your phone to continue getting notifications on your tracker."
This message appeared immediately after a phone reboot.

I can confirm that v2.71 does NOT fix the issue where notifications do not happen.
This is the case with v 2.68, 69, 70, 71.
Still have the problem of Notification Service Not Running. Reboot phone etc... but reboot does not have any positive effect.
We have stacks of owners complaining in multiple threads. The developers are clearly not on top of this issue. Fitbit, please please address this once and for all.

My last update was that notifications were a mixed bag, some working, but most not, and calls were delayed. Now only calls are still working, and still with 10-20 secs delayed, while all other notifications are not working at all...I am giving up, and after 5 months of being really patient with Ionic, I am putting it for sale...
Although with not so attractive devices, Polar is having a great eco system (been using M600 for some time), and it'll be my next purchase (M430 probably)...Fitbit after this experience, never again...

So I've sat here for over an hour reading and trying almost every one of the ways people suggested on here to fix my notifications with my fitbit blaze....but to no avail :("I'm getting the same error message. (Notification service is not running. A phone restart is required to re-enable notifications on your tracker") I've restarted my phone more times than I can count, and I've restarted my watch. I have tried un-installing and redoing it as well.
I have the Fitbit Blaze.
and my app version is 2.71
my phone is the Blu Vivo X.
with Andriod 7.0
I feel like I've tried everything imaginable...but if someone else maybe has a Blu phone hopefully you can help me!! It is so frustrating!!

Try the (non Fitbit) Fit Notifications. It's working well for me
