Fitbit Update: 9/6

Everyone, please make sure you are enabling the Fitbit app permissions under Settings of your Android device. You can go to Settings > Apps> Fitbit app > Permissions and make sure you have it toggled on.

Since I've received confirmation that this has been resolved with the latest update to the Fitbit app, version 2.78, I will be closing this thread. If you come across this issue in a future instance, please create a new topic on the forum and reference this one as the issue. Thanks for all your patience as we worked to get this resolved.

Fitbit Update: 9/5

Hi, everyone - Yesterday on 9/4, we started the release of the Fitbit for Android app version - 2.78. As with all our Android app releases, it is a slow and gradual release until it is completely out to everyone. You should all see it available sometime this week. Once its available to you, you'll be able to download it from the Google Play store.

This app version contains fixes and improvements for calls being received as "Unknown Caller." So please download it once you see it available and let me know here in this thread how it goes. I really appreciate everyone's patience! I'll stick around to hear some confirmations that the fix worked.

Fitbit Update 08/22/2018: Hi, everyone!

I wanted to let you know our team is aware that some of you are seeing "Unknown caller" on your Versa/Ionic watches since updating to Android Pie (9.0).

They are already investigating the issue and I will let you know when a fix is available. Thanks for reporting this here on the Community. Smiley Happy

Since the new Android update my Fitbit versa only shows unknown caller for calls. All permissions are turned on and all tricks I can think of have failed. Anyone else have this issue?

I have a Google Pixel 2 and after the latest update to Android pie 9.0, I am also experiencing the unknown caller issue on my Fitbit versa special edition. All of the other notifications are showing up fine. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Following - I am having the same issue. Used to get caller ID just fine but since I upgraded to Android P it just says "unknown caller". Texts work just fine - just the caller ID is screwed up. One of the biggest reasons I got the Versa was for this feature...

Same issue here. Worked on Oreo. Doesn't work on Pie.

And yet oddly after you have missed the call, it tells you who it was. If it knows who it is after you missed it and when they send a text then why can't it tell you who is calling??? SO ANNOYING!!!! PLEASE GET IT FIXED!!!

Not only android p is still being developed.

Once it is finished, my guess is it would take some time for the developer teams of the fitbit app to identify and solve any potential issue this new os would bring (like showing caller id only when the incoming call notification is on).

Android Pie is already released last week. Hopefully they can figure out what the issue is now that it is final.

I'm using a pixel 2xl with latest release of Android pie and I only see unknown caller for all my incoming calls.  I've uninstalled the Fitbit app, reinstalled and set up notifications again which didn't fix.  Should we be contacting Google about this?

I am having the same problem.  All calls come from an "unknown caller" even though I never had a problem before the Android Pie update.  Nothing I have tried has worked. I have a Pixel 2 phone, which was tricky to get synced to my Versa originally but Fitbit customer service helped me through the process. I will never again buy a Pixel phone but I'm not getting a new phone until next fall so I am hoping this issue will get sorted.

Fitbit are you listening?  Will this be fixed soon?

Same here. Pixel XL (listed as compatible on Fitbit's website) and Fitbit android software version 2.76.1.

I have the same problem with my Versa and my Essential Phone running Android Pie (the problem actually started when I installed one of the Android P betas).

Just a guess on my part, but a change in phone log and phone number related app permissions in Android Pie might explain the problem and how Fitbit can fix it:

Same problem with my Google Pixel 1. Unknown caller every time but texts have person's name! This started after upgrade on phone.

I have the same issue but with a charge2 and Android P (Google Pixel) installed.

sms notifications etc work fine but no caller information/nummer is shown (watch display shows -- unknown)

From what I've read - Android P has a new permissions groups for reading phone calls logs or phone number, so it looks like FitBit will need to update the app to comply with the new persmissions group.

I'll stand corrected on this but uninstalling and reinstalling the current app will not help anyone with Android P installed.

You can read about it here on xda-developers New permission group in Android P makes it clear when apps want to read call log or phone number

Regards
