Fitbit Update: 9/6

Everyone, please make sure you are enabling the Fitbit app permissions under Settings of your Android device. You can go to Settings > Apps> Fitbit app > Permissions and make sure you have it toggled on.

Since I've received confirmation that this has been resolved with the latest update to the Fitbit app, version 2.78, I will be closing this thread. If you come across this issue in a future instance, please create a new topic on the forum and reference this one as the issue. Thanks for all your patience as we worked to get this resolved.

Fitbit Update: 9/5

Hi, everyone - Yesterday on 9/4, we started the release of the Fitbit for Android app version - 2.78. As with all our Android app releases, it is a slow and gradual release until it is completely out to everyone. You should all see it available sometime this week. Once its available to you, you'll be able to download it from the Google Play store.

This app version contains fixes and improvements for calls being received as "Unknown Caller." So please download it once you see it available and let me know here in this thread how it goes. I really appreciate everyone's patience! I'll stick around to hear some confirmations that the fix worked.

Fitbit Update 08/22/2018: Hi, everyone!

I wanted to let you know our team is aware that some of you are seeing "Unknown caller" on your Versa/Ionic watches since updating to Android Pie (9.0).

They are already investigating the issue and I will let you know when a fix is available. Thanks for reporting this here on the Community. Smiley Happy

Same same.  Pixel 2 running Android Pie.  My Versa always says "unknown caller" while the phone is ringing.

@bokonon - Thanks for sharing the link. Hope the Fitbit app dev will take the points mentioned by Google into their account.

@Alan982 I think you are right. I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling the app and I have the same behavior when my Pixel 2.

I spoke with a representative at Fitbit today and of course they are aware and working on the problem but no time frame for resolution.  I was given a case number, pretty routine customer support.  Has anyone else called them and if not you should.  Keep letting them know that their 200 dollar device needs fixed now.

Just updated my Pixel XL phone to Android 9.0 (Pie) and now every call shows as "unknown caller" on my Versa.  Tried to reinstall the app as shown above, and this still did not work. Please help!

For the past 2-3 weeks my versa and phone have not been communicating and when they do it comes across caller unknown and no kind of messaging will work. Is this a Google issue or a fitbit issue?

Same problem here. Pixel 2 XL and ever since Pie update problems with Fitbit Versa. I've noticed it also doesn't stay connected via Bluetooth. I'm a first time Fitbit buyer and have been disappointed. Mostly with the software.

Hello @bitgingerfit, thanks for joining us, it's a pleasure for me to welcome new member to the Fitbit Community. Smiley Happy

Thanks for bringing this to my attention. Please note that many Android phones, like the Google Pixel 2XL have all the hardware requirements to be a supported device but are currently not on our list of supported devicesThis means that we have not tested it for compatibility and added it to the list yet. For the time being, we don't have an specific date or time-frame of when it will be listed as compatible.

While this device has all the specifications to be compatible and is currently working with the Fitbit app, it's possible to come across some issues along the way. Nevertheless, in your case I would like to suggest you to reset Notifications from the Fitbit app to check if this helps:

  1. Go to the Bluetooth settings on your phone and check if your tracker is on the list of paired devices. If it is, tap on it and select Forget this Device.
  2. Restart your phone
  3. Restart your Versa by pressing and holding the Back and Select buttons (left and bottom right) until you see the Fitbit logo on the screen.
  4. Open the Fitbit app and go to Account > Versa > Notifications and enable Notifications again.

I hope this can be helpful, if there's anything else I can do for you, please feel free to reply.

It was working great but then it had an update I guess and then everything
quit getting notifications on my watch and when somebody calls me it says
unknown caller instead of giving me the caller ID.

I have Google Pixel 2 and had no problems until updated to Android Pie. SMS Messages work properly but incoming calls are labeled "unknown". I also

uninstalled and reinstalled Fitbit app. All notifications and syncs are turned on. Soooe extremely frustrating. 😞

@AlessFitbit - Still investigation Smiley Frustrated but in another thread dated 16-08-18- the Moderator has given the date of releasing the updated App within 2 weeks. The App needs to update the code with this: https://developer.android.com/about/versions/pie/android-9.0-changes-all to show caller name on Android Pie.

Hope the dev team will fix it soon.

I'm having the same problem on my Google pixel 2. It is almost September and this problem is still going on. Extremely irritating.
