My Fitbit stopped syncing with my phone so after reading through these forums i ended up unpairing them with the hope of pairing would restore all syncing. Unfortunately I get as far as a code for pairing but then that fails with a big white cross on my Fitbit. Any ideas please?

Did you un-pair the tracker from your phones bluetooth?

Or did you tell Fitbit I dint want to use the tracker by removing the tracker from your Fitbit account?
