Sleep data with new layout

I suppose there was an update. The app presents sleep data differently.  Have others noticed this?

I miss seeing how long episodes of awake, light, REM and deep sleep are

Moderator edit: Subject for clarity.

Your color selections for Sleep Modes could not be worse! No one can tell decipher anything about the various Sleep Modes due to your lousy selections of sleep mode colors! If they don’t change I will switch to APPLE IWATCH!

Yes I noticed the same. I’m not enjoying this new layout. I got so much more from the previous format. I don’t find the data as useful anymore : (

I couldn’t agree more! I have been a faithful and enthusiastic Fitbit user for 11years (!!) and the recent changes to the app interface to view stats has been terrible. This data is not at all useful like it once was.

I’ve been feeling the same. After over a decade of loyalty to Fitbit I think it may be time to move on. If you find something that provides comparable insights (like what we were used to previously), please share!
Alternatively and preferrably, if Fitbit takes this feedback and goes back to useful data insights, graphs and history I would be more than happy to remain a customer

What did you get? I’ll do the same. I’m done with Fitbit after many years. So disappointed

Would really love that

I’m so very disappointed in the sleep format change.  Obviously it is an attempt to encourage people to pay for an upgrade.  I’ve been wearing a Fitbit for 10 years and this is really disgusting.  Charge 6 also does not have an altimeter.  Wish I had done more research on this before purchasing.  I’ve read Google is phasing out Fitbit so people will purchase Google trackers.  Fed up with companies trying to price gouge at every step!!!!!!

I am very dissatisfied with the new result displays. Especially the sleep graphs. The new displays are harder to read, they are messy and unclear. You can not see specific time ranges for the sleep stages. The old display was just perfect the way it was. Why fix something that works, only to make it less productive?

I agree! The new one looks horrible. How does Fitbit think it was an improvement!

I didn't think it could get worse. We get a less appealing look with less information! Are they trying to get rid of us?

I second that. MOST Of the sleep , information that I track every day is now gone. And I just attempted to nap off and on during a flight. But sleep tracker shows I slept a solid 2 hr, 34 min of deep sleep. Not one dot of anything else. What the heck?

So true. I don't even understand  this lay out.

So true I dislike this one wish they would go back to the old

Best Answer

I have to do it the next day after I wakeup for the night before. They just can't leave the stuff alone. They fix things that don't need fixing and forget the stuff they should be fixing.

It is an attempt to standardize graphs among the Google line.

As for times in the sleep stages, instead just giving the time your finger is on, you get the start/stop of each stage

Rich_Laue, whatever the rationale might be driving these functionally backward marching changes, the only relevant point is that the overwhelming majority of those who spent their hard-earned dollars for a product that they found deeply useful over many years are having that useful functionality ripped progressively away.  The people using the product are the best judge of worth versus these off-shore script kiddies assigned to this software and it should be more than crystal clear that those actually using the product are enraged at what has been done to their product.  September was a horror but this latest effort is in every sense a nightmare.  As someone who knows a bit about software development it's clear that the most productive and thoughtful approach is to involve those who will be using the product, letting their needs and preferences guide direction.  This process from Google has been nothing but a blind-siding and unwanted degradation of a product that had served so many very well over the years.  That this update removed the ability to see the detailed stats for sleep over past days is beyond mind-numbingly stupid as just one example.  A 30-day average informs not at all for those dealing with sleep issues.  When is taking information and functionality away from users ever a good idea?  Never is the one-word answer.  Garman and Apple as well as a few others will be the happy beneficiary of this sorry excuse for software development since purchasing a Pixel product will only get one more of the same.  Taking a product that had been independently reviewed as among the best in a category and stripping it of functionality to the point people are ditching their investment and purchasing other products seems like a pretty stupid business plan.

Agree! I use Fitbit to measure sleep stages (and steps) only. Have been collecting sleep data for medical usage for 3 years (must measure naps, times). Suddenly, the data presentation is different and 'sleep sessions' are lumped together. I need to see sleep and naps clearly. Doesn't work for me, the continuity is spoiled. Please leave an OPTION to retain the previous graph style which was simpler/clearer for technicians. Nothing was broken, why fix it.

Change for change sake! Someone is justifying their job. Please change back to old sleep graph, so much easier to read/understand

@Targamax from the piece "We [Google UX team] also felt compelled to heavily distinguish the product aesthetically..." yeap and that really went utterly wrong as 99% here in the forum testified...

AnnStumptown, that is the most idiotic development argument I've ever encountered.  Taking away data detail is seldom appreciated and from the community comments it should have given someone a heads up that they misunderstood what real users need and use.  It's fine to take that data and offer other features based on it, but it is insanity to remove the user's access to that data and think doing so will be well received.  I don't envision there being enough honest professional fortitude for them to acknowledge that they took a wrong path and will work hard to restore the information they have either eliminated, like the sleep information for previous nights, in addition to adding what they seem to think is needed simplification.  It's pretty easy to create a UI where users can pick the level of detail they care to view if you have even rudimentary skills.  As sad is it is to acknowledge it, likely the only fix is to move to other products.  It's a pretty rich market segment these days and while we might not be able to find something exactly like the pre-last-Septermber (v3.90) interface I've looked and there are very acceptable alternatives.  It's just a shame to ditch the Charge 5 I just replaced as well as my wife's and our two backup "pebbles" I purchased on eBay.  This has angered me to the point that I moved all browsing and search to Duckduckgo personally as well as directing my clients to do the same (that browser kills the kind of tracking that is Google's bread and butter) both on our computers and smart phones.  When implemented on your phone you will be astonished and horrified at how much all your phone apps track you and your information based on Duckduckgo's intercept reporting.
