Sleep score inaccurate

Sleep tracking is important to me - I have sleep apnea, ongoing fatigue issues, and just started using a mandibular advancement splint.

Yesterday I opened Fitbit and it went straight to sleep stats before it synced, showing I got 4-odd hours of sleep and a sleep score of 62. I synced fitbit with my android phone and it showed correct sleep duration of 7hr42min, but the sleep score remained 62. I've made sure app is up to date and have rebooted my phone but that number ain't budging!

I've been using sleep score and sleep score average to motivate me to improve my sleep habits; knowing the data is incorrect degrades my confidence in this tool.

Any ideas?

Hi @Jen2911. Welcome to the Community Forums.

Thanks for letting me know that your sleep score wasn't recorded accurately, and the rest of your information. I understand how helpful this data is for you, and let me help you out with this. May I know if you have the All-day sync enabled? I'm asking this as the "4-odd hours" might be the first 4 hours of your sleep which synced at that moment, however when you woke up an manually sync the rest of your sleep was updated.

Note that the sleep score is based on your heart rate, the time you spend awake or restless, and your sleep stages. For this reason, please verify the amount of time you were on REM, Light and Deep time during the first 4 hours and the resting 3:42 hours, as if you had more asleep time in the first 4 hours that will explain why the sleep score didn't vary when syncing the total 7:42 hours.

I'll be around, keep me posted.

Thanks Lizzy!

Yep, I have AllDay sync on as standard. That's why it concerned me when my duration and associated stats updated ok and the sleep score didn't change.

My stage duration stats for the whole night (9:54pm to 6:34am):
 REM 2:10
 Deep 1:55
 Light 3:41
 Awake 0:54

I don't know how to figure out totals for the first 4 hours only, but from the graph I'd say I had about half of my REM sleep, 2/3 of my deep sleep, and short choppy periods of light sleep which evened out in the 2nd half of the night - I'd guess about 1/3 of the total.

This sleep score is so different from my other sleep scores, and I felt quite good the day after (whereas last night I got a score of 80 from less sleep and found myself having micronaps at work I was so tired).

Basically unless you can find me a solution I won't feel I can trust the sleep score or any of the info on the app ever again.

I hope you can help me!

Hi @Jen2911. Thanks for getting back and I'm sorry for my delayed response.

I appreciate you for reviewing the information shared to you in my previous post. Please note that the sleep scores will not only be based on your sleep duration, but also on the heart rate readings that you had during that period. As mentioned above, if you had more asleep time in the first 4 hours than in the last 3:42 hours, that will explain why the sleep score didn't vary after syncing the rest of your sleep time.

Now, if you had more sleep time on the last 3:42 hours, please verify if the Fitbit app is updated to the latest version, reboot your phone and check your sleep details one more time. If the issue persists, please take a screenshot of the sleep stages recorded for that day and share it with me. For instructions to attach a picture, check this post.

I'll look forward to your response.
