Sleep stages show intermittently

Hi everyone. New here. Just got the Charge 2 about a week ago and love it.  I've seen similar posts but they were a few months old so I'm hoping there's some sort of update.  Noticed that I got sleep pattern info for 2 nights which I thought was really cool then I got sleep stages info for 2 nights which was even better but then it went back to patterns. What's going on?  Software is up to date. Is this still a software issue or am I missing something?  Thanks for your input.

Hi there @HvyMtl72, I can't start without giving you the warmest welcome to the Fitbit Community!

There are a few scenarios where you might see your sleep pattern (which shows your time asleep, restless, and awake) instead of sleep stages:

  • If you slept in a position that prevented your tracker from getting a consistent heart-rate reading or wore it too loosely. For best results, wear your tracker higher on your wrist (about 2-3 finger widths above your wrist bone). The band should feel secure but not too tight.
  • If you used the Begin Sleep Now option in the Fitbit app instead of simply wearing your tracker to bed.
  • If you slept for less than 3 hours.
  • If your tracker’s battery is critically low.

Hope this helps and if the issue persists keep me posted.

Thanks for the response. I actually found this info in many other places
already and made sure I was doing all of them last night but unfortunately
it didn't make a difference. Last night just showed the patterns and not
the stages. I was hoping that there was some new information on the
subject.

Hi there @HvyMtl72, thank you for let me know you have tried the suggestions already. The most common cause of you are not receiving sleep stages is due to the position you are sleeping.

Are you seeing an error on your sleep section about why you are not getting Sleep Stages?

While you’re sleeping, your device tracks the beat-to-beat changes in your heart rate, known as heart rate variability (HRV), which fluctuate as you transition between light sleep, deep sleep, and REM sleep stages. If we don’t have enough information on the backend to calculate this, we’ll show you your old sleep pattern which doesn’t require heart rate. When this situations occurred it will display an error.

If this is not the case, try to restart your tracker if you haven't. For more directions the following post will guide you through.

See you around!

I'm a side and back sleeper. No errors shown.

I have the same issue. Usually I get sleep stages only once or twice a week. I've also followed the advice given and it's the same.

Hello @HvyMtl72 and @lauramdavies, I've seen some users as a workaround are doing the following if sleep stages are not appearing.

Log out from your Fitbit app and go to your phone settings. Access to the App manager option and look for the Fitbit app in your downloaded apps list. Once you are there, clear the app cache and data and finish the workaround by restarting your phone. When your phone has initialized again, go back to your app and give it another try.

See you until the next one!
