So, I totally get the difference between the 'calories left' and the calorie deficit, and how both can change throughout the day as I'm more or less active, but what I don't get is why I *start* each day with sometimes drastically different calories left. Sometimes I wake up and the app says I've eaten 0 of 1500, and other days I wake up and it says I've eaten 0 of 2100! But in both cases, I haven't even gotten out of bed yet!
Is it basing it on the day before or something? Any insights appreciated!

Hello there @BluePlate, nice to see you again in the Fitbit Community! I was reading your post that you are seeing different calories at the start of each day. The reason of this is your BMR. As you may know, your tracker beside tracking your calories burned through out the exercise, it will also count your BMR.
Your BMR is the rate at which you burn calories as a result of maintaining vital body functions. These functions include breathing and heartbeat and brain activity, among others. Your BMR usually accounts for at least half of the calories you burn in a day and this will have an impact on your calorie intake.
This amount is not based on a previous day, at the moment your tracker goes back to zero at midnight, it will start counting BMR calories.
Keep me posted if you have other questions.

Thanks for the reply! Are my vital signs really so variable when I sleep that there may be a 500 calorie difference by the time I wake up??

Hi there @BluePlate, thank you for your question and my apologies for the late response. Note that not all depend on your vitals, but also on your sleep movements. Your tracker is always watching your motion patterns. A good way to tell this is to review and keep an eye on your sleep logs and your heart rate in conjunction and how your numbers behave in relation to your calories.
How it goes so far since our last interaction? Is the amount of calories still varying every morning? If you feel this is not correct, perhaps can you share a screenshot with me? This will allow me to have a closer look and have more context of the scenario you are experiencing.
See you later until the next opportunity.
