Steps accuracy issue

I walked approx 3 miles earlier today & my # of steps was around 9,000 by evening. Then I got a badge notification that said I got 70,000 steps today!  Inspire face said 9,000 and change, but app showed over 70,000 steps& now tracker shows over 70,000 steps(but only 3.89 miles total) very confused. Anyone else having this issue? Is there a fix? I had an issue with my prev Fitbit and this 1 is new, I've only had it a couple weeks so it *should* be working correctly.
