Steps recorded without using a Fitbit

I had a Charge 2 and quit wearing it June 7, 2020. The battery ran out. I never wore it again or charged it again. I continued to record my weight in the app and watched steps mysteriously appear day after day until I bought a Charge 3 in August. Where were all of those June and July steps coming from?

It's happening again now that my Charge 3 has died for the first time. Where do these steps come from when the app says "No Device Found?"

Thanks for bringing this to our attention and for the details that were shared in your post. The steps that were synced with your account probably came from using the MobileTrack feature of the Fitbit app since you continued using it despite not wearing a tracker. You can learn more about this checking this help article. 

 

In regards the issue you're experiencing with your Charge 3, can you please let me know if the heart rate sensors are flashing or is your device completely unresponsive? If you haven't already done so, I recommend you to check our help article: Why isn't my battery charging on my Fitbit device? and let me know how it goes. Such article includes a restart process which can be really helpful for this situation
