Stop Showing Ads in the App

It's once again time to remind Fitbit that we paid for our devices, a lot of money compared to other fitness trackers. Part of that money goes to the use of the app, because you can't use the hardware without the software. Being presented with huge, literally full-screen ads is simply not acceptable.

Because I live abroad, I just received an ad for Fitbit hardware timed to a public holiday I don't even observe, but that is beside the point. I paid for this, I don't want to see any ads in the app!!!

See, I would appreciate such a reply much more if it wasn't at least the tenth time that this issue has come up and every time a moderator has acted grateful for the feedback and happily ignored it.

Fitbit continues to ignore all feedback, as usual, and displays ad after ad after ad. And then it acts surprised when its stock price plummets over the last five years.

Could you post a screen shot of this add. I've never had an add on my Fitbit app. And only a small banner on fitbit.com.

You can still vaguely see the English menu options because I use English on my phone, but Fitbit ignores that as well and just spams everyone with a German ip address with these ads. You can also very clearly see that it's a full-screen ad

I don't always make screenshot and save them but here's another one from December 2017:

and another one from February 2018:

basically they appear at most gift-giving holidays. Christmas, father's day, mother's day, Valentine's Day... You get the picture (and the screenshots)

@LanuzaFitbit why does it seem that only the Germans get these full screen adds?

Could it possibly be put their by mallware on the phone?

Somebody in Fitbit should know if this is an expected full screen add?

Would you be able to esculate this.. It concearns me in thatwhy target only one country.. Or maybe something with the up address triggers the add.

Ok these are just my thoughts and concerns

@Rich_Laue,  hi, it's not just the Germans getting adds. I'm in the UK and have received adds for fitbit coach etc. Mostly I get the email ads. but I do also get the odd in app ads. and I also do not want them.

Best Answer

It's not just Germany @Rich_Laue. I've also seen them myself in the UK and one of my US friends has seen them in America.

Hi @Rich_Laue, further to my previous comment with masterful timing I received an ad for Fathers Day sale on my late father's birthday.  The email ads I can choose not to open, these in app ones are a bit more in your face.

It's not a big deal, I live in the real world, these things are always happening to someone somewhere, but you still have that split second when you have to decide to laugh.

Yes I also received the fathers day one, very intrusive as can be seen in the screenshot below.

Once again, a full screen ad. I simply cannot wrap my head around it. How ignorant and arrogant does a company have to be to subject its paying customers to this abhorrent behaviour. Fitbit must really be desperate for cash

Best Answer

I also got this thrust in my face. What amazed me is since you have being messing about with the new app version I have to often synch twice to get up to date displays but that came through like proverbial off a shovel.

Was there ever an answer for this issue?  I am tired of having to close a full page ad to see my stats.  Sorry if I assumed when I purchased a first or by now my 3rd Fitbit device that I must always expect to jump through hoops at Fitbit's whim.  I can tell you now there will NOT be a 4th device.  Fitbit has turned into a terrible customer service company.  One I'm ashamed of once bragging about to others.

Best Answer

Hi @BrokeLegGuy, since the disappearance of @LanuzaFitbit there has been no further comment from fitbit.  They ask for screenshots, get them and then, nothing, absolutely nothing.

@Lilbiddy probably this is because none of the other moderators are subscribed to this thread. This is a community forum for users to help users, the moderators do not try and read every post.

I HATE the ib ad that is constantly flicking on my screen. I actually feel nauseous from it's constant movement and it's disorienting. I agree w/another reviewer, I PAID for this device, and I should have access to my info without being subjected to ads.

SRSLY  talk about dark patterns.  end this nonsense.  if your products weren't so deceptive in their marketing, we shouldn't need need a forced upgrade in the first place.

I would like to know which advertising domain names are used, so that I can allow them through my Android ad-blocker (DNS66)

When I have my ad-blocker running, I cannot use the Android App, it says "no internet connection" at the top

https://community.fitbit.com/t5/Android-App/quot-No-Internet-Connection-quot-in-App-What-domains-bes...

Can someone from Fitbit please find out which advertising domain names need to be allowed to pass through my ad-blocker software, so that I can use the android app to sync with my versa.
