Sync problem with Galaxy S8

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Samsung Galaxy S8, latest version. My Blaze has worked well for nearly 2 years and has never had any sync problems. For approximately the last month, it will now only sync when I open the app and manually request a sync now. It no longer syncs continually and will go for days without syncing. Very frustrating.

Hi @Twaitman  Android 9 here, same phone as you, app version 3.6.1 and that's happening to me. I have on all day sync and have given full permissions to the app and phone. I still have to manually sync daily. Not sure what it is, but knowing Fitbit, they will take care of it for us. Alta HR is my device. I used to have a Blaze until it died over a year ago. Glad you're with us.

Thanks for your response. Glad to know it's not just me. Maybe they will pay attention and get it fixed.

Nice to see that you're digging into the Fitbit Forums @Twaitman. Let me give you a warm Welcome to our Community.

Many thanks for stopping by @Odyssey13.

As @Odyssey13 mentioned it's very important to be sure that your phone meets the minimum operating system requirements

You can also try :

  • Removing the tracker from your phone's Bluetooth settings with all devices listed there too.
  • Restart your phone and your tracker (again).
  • Now add the tracker to the Bluetooth list and reopen the Fitbit app to start a sync.
  • Be sure your phone has a cellular data or Wi-Fi connection.

Please let me know if that works. I'll be around !😺

I've tried all that stuff. As indicated, it worked perfectly for about 18 months. So something has changed. Still syncs manually.

Hi @GraceGFitbit  for the past two weeks or so I've played with the settings, with the same results as @Twaitman mentioned. I have all day sync on and I have the phone on unless charging it or restarting it. None of what you suggested has worked for me. Sometimes I tell it to sync and it doesn't do it. I've learned to be patient and to ask it more than once. Ultimately it does sync and it's current. Hours later, despite my activity, I need to tell it to sync again. It's more of an annoyance than a serious problem.

@GraceGFitbit  since I have the Alta HR and @Twaitman has the Blaze, but we both have the same phone, operating system and app, should this be moved to the Android section of the forum?

I would call it a major annoyance, enough to consider buying a new watch from a different company.

Thank you for getting back to us @Twaitman and @Odyssey13

@Odyssey13, the posts were already in the Android boards 😉

Can you both please confirm, that you have turned Off the all-day sync function and then back On again ?

Keep me posted with the outcome!

@GraceGFitbit  I've turned it all off, then shut the phone off, waited five minutes or so and reversed it. I've restarted my Alta HR each time I charged it. Last night I got another system update from Samsung, so I'll keep an eye on it to see what's going on. Thanks!

I have turned off the all day sync and turned it back on. Did not help. Still need to sync manually.

Hi @Twaitman and @Odyssey13, I'm sorry to hear that you guys still having issues syncing correctly and thanks a lot for all you patience and the things you've already tried.

Syncing difficulty is usually caused by a missing requirement. Please make sure all the requirements listed here below are in order :

Hope that helps, let me know how it goes!😺

@GraceGFitbit  I got the 3.7 last night and it seems to be fine. It also appears to be syncing without prompting!

Sync issues like many have with fitbit 3. Just noticed that it syncs when my Samsung 8 is charging. Dont know if others have seen this.

That response irritates me. If you read the messages you will find that this used to work just fine, for nearly 2 years. And this is multiple people. We didn't suddenly remove some of the "requirements."

@Twaitman
Would you like to try this?

https://community.fitbit.com/t5/Android-App/Pairing-with-Samsung-Galaxy-J7/m-p/2875493/highlight/tru...

Also on your Samsung phone

try going into the "Optimise Battery Usage" settings and make sure that the Fitbit app and the following three are disabled (meaning: NOT optimised. Just make sure to turn the switch off )

- Bluetooth
- Bluetooth Midi Service
- BluetoothTest

If this does not work, feel free to send me a private message for further help.

Have never resolved this. Just try to remember to manually sync every day. That usually takes quite a while, but eventually succeeds. If I go walking/hiking and choose to track the walk, it does continuously sync.
