Syncing difficulties with Ionic and Samsung Galaxy S8 active

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Bought it not even two months ago.  It hasn't synced reliably since day 1.  It will work once or for a few days then just stop again.  have to restart my phone multiple times to get it to sync.  phone sees the device but the app keeps telling me the device is not found.  Galaxy S8 active.  yes it's the current version of android, and the fitbit app.  yes i have uninstalled and reinstalled the app and the ionic.  yes i have disconnected every other bluetooth device i own (which is a real annoyance in itself).  yes i have location permissions.  yes the fitbit app is allowed to run in the background with no restrictions at all.

It will sometimes pull partial data but not complete the sync.  then it just keeps bouncing back and forth showing the data from the last sync and some of the data that is currently on my fitbit.  this is not helping me lower my daily heart rate...  at this point, i want a refund because this is ridiculous from such an expensive device.  And I see how many other people have the same problems I'm not at all impressed.

First, I appreciate your effort and patience for troubleshooting this situation prior to posting, I totally understand how frustrating this matter can be for you but I'm here to help you with this. That said, if you haven't already done so, I recommend you to check how the syncing procedure works here and see if there's a missing requirement on your Android mobile device that's preventing the syncing procedure to be completed. Also, you can move forward to the troubleshooting steps that are specified on: Why won't my Fitbit device sync? and let me know how it goes.

Please make sure that your mobile device is compatible because due to a compatibility concern you can experience connection difficulties.

Keep me posted, I'll be around if you need anything else.

My versa & Note 8 were compatible when I purchased my versa but with the most recent update in the Fitbit app, the Note 8 is no longer compatible?!?!?! 🤯🤔😠

Is there a reason behind the dropping of previously compatible devices???

We, your paying customers, are trying to tell you something isn't right.  We want our fitbits to work.  I have seen so many complaints just like mine but you guys just keep linking back to the same troubleshooting articles.  The fact that I am having issues where half the data syncs but the sync activity doesn't complete and doesn't show up in the device details would seem to indicate that a connection issue is unlikely.
  •
  • The Fitbit app is installed on a supported phone or tablet. To check, see http://www.fitbit.com/devices. S8 and S8+ are listed.  i have an S8 active.  you guys haven't bothered to check a samsung active model in several generations most likely because it's the same platform
  • The latest version of the Fitbit app is installed on your phone or tablet. as previously stated, app is up to date.  app has even been uninstalled completely and reinstalled
  • Your phone has a cellular data or Wi-Fi connection. it has both
  • The Fitbit app is allowed to run in the background on your phone. For more information, see What should I know about using the Fitbit app on my Android phone?  as previously stated, app is all...
  • The Bluetooth setting on your phone is on. To check, tap Settings > Bluetooth.  yes it's on.  i have turned it off and on many many times
  • Your software on your phone is up to date. To check, tap Settings > About Phone or About Device > Android Version phone has the most up to date software available from my provider
  • You have location services turned on and the Fitbit app has permission to access your location. For more information see, Why is the Fitbit app prompting me to turn on location services?  yes location services are on.  sin...
  • If you use more than one device to sync, make sure the other device isn't nearby. If the device is nearby, turn off Bluetooth on it. fitbit has never been linked to any other device.
  • Your phone isn't managing other Bluetooth connections. If you have multiple Bluetooth products like speakers or headsets paired to your phone along with your Fitbit device, you may have trouble using more than one at the same time. Turn off other Bluetooth connections when not in use. - like i said, i have disconnected every other bluetooth device. i really feel like this is a ridiculous request but there you have it.  no other bluetooth devices
  • Your phone doesn't have a syncing issue listed in What should I know about using the Fitbit app on my Android phone? my phone is not listed here
  • Your Fitbit device's battery isn't critically low.  actually the only time it seems to sync moderately well is at 100% charge but even that is not reliable
  • The firmware on your Fitbit device is up to date as described in How do I update my Fitbit device?  - according to my account, it is up to date.

Depending your phone, these tips might make syncing easier:

  • Turn on the Always Connected option in the Fitbit app. This setting improves the Bluetooth connection between your phone and Fitbit device. Note that turning on this feature may cause the battery on your Fitbit device to drain more quickly than normal. - i have tried it with and without this feature.  still doesn't want to work.
  • Turn on All-Day Sync in the Fitbit app. This setting prompts your Fitbit device to periodically sync with the Fitbit app but may shorten battery life on your phone or Fitbit device. i have tried it with and without this feature.  still doesn't want to work.

If your Fitbit device still won't sync, try these steps: - and yes, i have tried all of these steps as well except trying a different device because i only have one device and you guys stopped providing the fitbit dongles years ago for some reason.

  1. Force quit and then reopen the Fitbit app.
  2. Go to Settings > Bluetooth and turn Bluetooth off and back on.
  3. Open the Fitbit app.
  4. If your Fitbit device didn't sync, restart it. For instructions see How do I restart my Fitbit device?
  5. Uninstall and reinstall the Fitbit app.
  6. If your Fitbit device won't sync after you reinstall the app, log in to your Fitbit account on a different phone, tablet, or computer and try to sync.
  7. If your Fitbit device still doesn’t sync, remove all other Fitbit devices from your account and from the list of connected Bluetooth devices on your phone and try to sync.
