So, friday I bought two Ionic and the Aria 2, and so far I can't say I'm satisfied. I experience problems with both the Ionic and setup of the Aria, wich leads me to believe the app is the source to all my problems.
I connected to my Ionic on the first try, but my fiance took several tries and a restart of her phone in order to properly connect to the watch. The trouble was mainly around setting up the wifi.
The Aria 2 I am unable to set up what so ever. The app finds the scale but can't connect. After restarting my phone I finaly get to the point where I enter the pin showing on the scale, but in the next step no wifi is showing up. I close the app, open it agin and the scale is showing under "my devices". I enter the Aria 2 and try to set up wifi, but no luck.
I delete the scale to try and set it up again, but now the whole "add new device" page won't open! Only a round loading circle spinning around.
I also have the same problems with the Ionic that several other users have reported, regarding the notifications, no bluetooth connection, etc.
I do believe that the Android app is the root to all evil in this case and I sure hope the fix is swift.
Before spending a lot of money on this purchase, I spent many hours reviewing the Garmin Vivoactive 3 and the Ionic before deciding on the latter.
If a fix is not presented shortly, my equipment will be returned to the dealer, and Garmin will benefit from this instead. I'm sorry FitBit, but I chose you over Garmin, so I really want this to work.
Regards
A frustrated FitBit firsttimer
PS: My phone is a Huawei P20 Lite, and my fiance has a Sony Xperia XZ Premium

I get frustrated with the Ionic but I put it down to our phones and the App. Still waiting for 2.72..
This last week I have done testing using the Dongle on my PC and Fitbit Connect and still had bad results trying to sync.. The moment I turned the phone off I get immediate syncs.. This agrees with Fitbit's many posts a couple of years ago telling us the cause is by interference of signals. But in saying that, I can be outside in the garden and notifications come through on the Ionic... So I don't know the cause..
I'm now doing using the dongle first thing every morning with the phone switched off and this method hasn't missed a beat.. When I turn the phone on and open the App the results are there within seconds.. So it's not the Ionic, it's the interface with the phones..
During the day when I open the App invariable I get an immediate sync.. Invariably meaning.... next time it could take minutes.. When it does that, I open the phone browser and there's the data on the server but not the phone..
We have a combination of issues.. Otherwise I'm happy with my Sony XP

@jwebb72 Thanks for confirming what I have established.. So far always a perfect sync via the Dongle with my Android switched off..
When I switch the phone, open the Fitbit App I get a sync from the server within minutes.

Having 2 devices (computer with dongle and phone) trying to communicate with your fitbit watch will always cause problems. Just quit trying to connect with the 2 different devices simultaneously and you'll be fine. They're not designed to work like that.
