Hello everyone!

Check out our latest blog for how to get the most out of the new app.

Note: Please be patient if you don't see the update right away, as it will take some time to roll out completely.

Happy stepping!

Yup i have been saying over and over

1- executive apologiizing

2-some people get fired for one of the biggest tech redesign failure

3- a date for that coming release and a plan with the other stuff they removed or transformed for no reason and less acuracy

all of that : before black friday

I know it wont happen loll so i have been shopping the next smartwatch

It is borderline grotesque what the Fitbit app team is doing. They just announced the 4.02 version, which I already have installed for some time, and which introduced a new bug for me - no Strava sync.

The main problem with the food intake logging persists. If you believe this screenshot I live in the future already. Funny but no funny.

This is such a core functionality, it being buggy renders the whole app utterly useless to me.

I still have time to return my Fitbit Charge 6. I just need to chose a Garmin alternative. Pity, I liked it in the beginning, but they just killed it.

I think I have found another issue

Yesterday I noticed that my afternoon ride stated that the energy burned was 1,135kj and that it was 40%.   My daily goal is just under 12,000kj.  What is happening is that although I have set my preferences to metric/ kj etc, in this case it is using kj as the numerator and has calories as the denominator!

So add this to my list of grievances:

- battery indicator % gone with the indicator now no longer at the top. I can't even find the new battery indicator.

- max speed from a ride is gone. I have no idea what the laps thing is. In the past I was happy with how far did I ride, what energy did I burn, how long did it take and what was the average speed?  All this was shown on the nice little map.

- and the new look is aesthetically not pleasing.

I work in a human services area, the simple rule is that once someone has something it is very hard to take away unless there is an extremely compelling reason and that any alternative must be an improvement. This app update does not meet those conditions as the usability has got worse.

I just posted that maths does not seem to be the update's strong point. 1,135kj is not 40% of 11,840kj. 1,135 is 40% of 2,830 calories though 😉.

Definitely a case of comparing apples to oranges using one type of measurement as the numerator and another as the denominator.

@bluevoodooiv You are lucky to being able to add food at all. The Dutch don't have a food database. We have to use the food database of other countries, which are actually incomparable. Most products we have here are not in there. We requested this years ago. There are food databases available which they can use. The story is still under at the backlog. But we pay the same subscription

Best Answer

Not so lucky. The UK food database is very basic. So far the barcode scanner found nothing of what I scanned. I just create my custom foods with the energy info from the labels. It is even worse with the food database in Bulgaria, where I'm stationed at the moment. In comparison MyFitnessPal found 90% of the foods I barcode scanned, in both countries.

Apparently the Fitbit app is a very minor bit in the Google universe. Still you would think that after such overwhelming negative response they would take some measures to rectify the problem. Meanwhile they make it worse, in my case to the point I want to return my otherwise excellent Fitbit Charge 6. To me this seems a mockery of the users to which Google says 'we can do whatever we want, so we'll just harness your health data for profit, and give you the worst user experience in return'. Well, you know what, Google? I can do something, I'll just buy a Garmin, and forget about you altogether.

I absolutely HATE the new app display…all in the same colour, ugly and not user friendly… you should do surveys to customers before making these kind of changes…. This is not a good strategy at all….

Nicely put, thank you very much!

It has been a month and still hate this app version, thankfully I have 3.88 still installed on my old phone.

Thank you for taking an okay UI design and making it worse.  Really makes me want to support the company even more and tell all my friends what a great product you have. /s

Usually it's not that hard to revert to a previous version. Which is what I'll be doing shortly. Already cancelled my premium.

Just search for "download previous versions of Fitbit app" on the net(not play store).

And I just figured out that the update screwed up the battery indicator.

The app said it was fully charged, so I took it off the charger, and it's NOT fully charged. So that's nice.

Oh, it's actually quite easy to revert back.....

1. Delete the current version from phone.

2. Search Internet for "Fitbit app 3.88".

3. Download and install.

4. Find Fitbit app on Play store and make sure auto update is turned off.

You're welcome. 🙃🤗

Best Answer
Won't last. Even with auto updates turned off it will eventually force the
update. I've done it 3 times now
Best Answer
The same thing happened to me. Auto update is turned off, but within 24
hours the "new and improved" crappy app was back. There seems to be no
light at the end of this tunnel! Carolyn

@TrGibson  It may be that ability to keep the restored older version safe from updates depends on whether you have moved your account to Google or not.

Best Answer
I'm googlefied. And you can't undo that
Best Answer

@TrGibson  Sadly, you may be stuck with the new version then.

I found, hash checked, and installed an older version of the app on October 7th and have had no problems, but I still connect through a Fitbit account (I've been around a while...)

I strongly support letting users undo the move to Google, at least until they make it mandatory for all users in 2025.

From what I've read in the forum posts, it appears ability to choose an alternate app version isn't the only thing that gets taken away when you move over.

For all of those who have have created accounts with new devices or who have already moved to Google, I hope they make good on their promise to restore the majority of the things they messed up with their "update". They owe you that.
