Track Exercise stops logging after 6km

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Hi,

I have noticed in the last 2 weeks if I track a walk longer than 6km the GPS tracking of the walk stops at about the 6.1km each time.  If my walk is less than 6km there is no issue.  If it is longer than the tracking either just terminates at approx. the 6.1km mark or it draws a straight line from the 6.1km to my true finish spot (usually about 7.5km).  Also have a issue with the pause buttom not terminating the trace exercise session which may be related to this issue.  Although the pause button often doesn't work on shorter walks either but still seems to track the correct path and distance.

My phone is a Samsung 4s mini running android 4.4.2

@gowalking It's great to see you in the Community!  That is strange! Have you updated the app to its latest version already? Also, try to log out from the app and then log back in. If the issue persists, uninstall the app and then install it back in. This should fix the issue with the distance shown while using GPS.

Let me know how it goes! Smiley Happy

Hi,
Thank you for your suggestions but I have tried all of them and it hasn't made any difference. I have even restarted my fitbit charge hr.
I always apply the app updates but it was only 3 days ago I uninstalled and reinstalled the whole app.  Have had to walks of approx. 8km in length since them and both stopped tracking GPS track around the 6.1km point.

I went for a 2 mile run yesterday with my Charge HR and when I finished, my run map showed up correctly and everything. Said I did 2.06 miles. Cool. Well, after I synced, my run map disappeared and turned into an 8-foot run that apparently took me 25 minutes. Ummmm what. Is there a problem with MobileRun and SmartTrack conflicting with one another? SmartTrack was able to record my run, but Mobile Run pooped out on me. The weird thing is that it was fine when I ended my run, but got all crazy later. Any ideas?

Hello @vdangit, I'm glad to see you around. Mobilerun and SmartTrack might affect your results with your exercise if both activities were logged with the same start time. Since all steps, calories, and active minutes recorded by your tracker are overridden for the duration of a logged activity by the activity's entered values. This ensures that your steps are not counted twice as long as the manually logged activity has the correct start time and duration.

If your activities are not at the same time, then this is not the case. If the issue still persist on a daily basis I recommend to log out from your account and reboot your phone since the feature of MobileRun use the GPS of your phone. For more information you can review this article: Can I track a GPS activity using the Fitbit app?

Keep me posted how it goes.

Thanks. Does this mean I should either disable my SmartTrack if I want to
use my GPS to track my run, or not use MobileRun at all? Just want to
clarify for future use.

Hi,

I have the exact same problem. The app hangs often after exactly 6km of logging. Sometimes even before that mark. Another problem that occurs is that the stop/pause/finish button doesnt react anymore and the app has to be killed.

The problem firstly appears on my old Galaxy S3 - i thought it may be the Ram so I bought the Galaxy A5 2016 with 2Gb Ram. But today the very same problem happened again! A fresh System with Android 5.x and a clean install of the latest Fitbit App.

On the other side: on my LG G4 it runs perfectly, even after 5h of tracking.

So dear Fitbit Team - what is the problem? I would appreciate a fast solution. Smiley Happy

I have very similar problems with the tracker on android after 2 miles it goescvery sluggish the tracker slows down does not keep up with your position. the red lines is way behind. if you stop walking and wait for it to catch you up it is of no help it goes slow again. Also when you have finished you cannot press pause and finish until that red line has caught up which can take 15 to 20 mins.

Also I have noticed that the tracker really does drain the life out of battery. I also use on occasion Map my walk app this works perfectly with no sluggishness and also does not drain the battery the same as the fitbit app does.

I've gone back to using the map my walk app today at least this works first class for tracking and no battery drain on the phone. It will sync with fitbit but only the steps are synced and cannot export the exercises over to fit bit.

So my next question for fitbit is why you cannot make an app for simple tracking as good as map my walk's or at least allow syncing the exercises.

Having a devil of a time when using the exercise tracking feature in the app (Fitbit 2.27 with Charge HR tracker, running on Samsung Galaxy S3 with Android 4.4.2).

After a longer run (4 miles +), I cannot stop the run (pause button does not work), and the entire phone becomes sluggish.  After waiting for a while, the finish button eventually shows up - but that also takes a while to work.  This is really annoying, especially after a good run where the last mile results are essentially ruined by all the messing around with the app needed to stop recording.

The best I could do is reboot the phone (nasty), which sort of gives me control back.  I have used MapMyWalk in the past with no troubles, but I much prefer to use FitBit since I get the HR information directly.

I found previous forum entries which discussed turning off screen lock, issues with other notifications, etc. but I have not found any issue resolution to this point.

Any help?

@Dan248 Welcome to the Fitbit Community! Have you tried restarting your Charge HR? (follow @AlejandraFitbit's steps on that post). That can help with the button problem. Also, make sure you have updated the Fitbit app (follow @MarreFitbit's steps) to its latest version. Then, log out from the app, reboot your phone, and log back in. The app should work properly after doing this. If you see that the button is still not working; report the problem to customer support for further assistance.

That is precisely what happens Dan using the app to track exercise on a mobile phone, android, no idea how it reacts on any other os for a mobile.

Santlfitbit all what you suggested never works, it still slows the phone and jams it up good and proper. As I explained before works ok for the first couple of miles and then goes totally slow and sluggish when you open the app to look at the tracking the red line is nowhere near your location this is the problem. Have to wait for the red line to catch you up, and until that happens you cannot finish, record and save the exercise. Only way is to reboot the phone.

the Map my Walk app for tracking does not do this it is precise and never slows the phone. Unfortunately that is one reason why I uninstalled the fitbit app on my phone and use the map my walk instead, it is more reliable. I forgot I still was subscribed to this.
