My Alta doesn't receive messages .. It says it's compatible with my Samsung Galaxy S5

There are a few steps involved in setting up notifications. Fitbit have produced a guide here: https://help.fitbit.com/articles/en_US/Help_article/1979/
Hopefully this will help you work out what still needs to be done.

Don't worry, Samsung Galaxy S5 is a compatible mobile device. If your tracker is not receiving texts, I recommend following @MarreFitbit's instructions in the My tracker isn't receiving notifications (Android Fitbit app) post.
