Tracking an activity with MobileRun and my Fitbit device

When I track my run from within the Fitbit app using the mobile run tracking function, the report on the workout doesn't include my heart rate data. However, when I track my run from my Fitbit device it does include heart rate data. The problem is that the app tracking is more accurate in terms of GPS than my Fitbit device. Am I missing something here or is there a setting I can change?

@Cksawyer It's nice to see you in the Fitbit Community. Thank you for getting in touch about this.

I'll be happy to clarify your inquiry. Since you'd like to track your heart rate along with GPS data, you could use both and once you sync, the data will merge.

You can capture your route, distance, pace, and more using the GPS sensors on your phone. Your Fitbit device calculates other stats, including steps taken and calories burned, during the activity.

  1. Confirm that the Fitbit app can use your phone's GPS sensors. For more information, see How do I allow my Fitbit device to use my phone's GPS sensors?
  2. Tap the Today tab

then tap the gray + icon on the Exercise tile.
  3. Tap Tracking at the top.
  4. For Android (OS 7.0+), make sure you grant the Fitbit app access to the requested features of your phone. For more information, see What should I know about using the Fitbit app on my Android phone?
  5. Choose an activity: run, walk, or hike.
  6. To hear cues during your activity, tap Cues and set the type, frequency, and volume.
  7. Tap Start. During the activity, swipe left to see a GPS map.
  8. When you're done, tap Pause, then tap and hold Finish.
  9. Review your workout summary.

Let me know how it goes. I'll be around if you have any additional questions.

Thank you for the detailed response. I will try what you suggest.

However, to be clear, is what you are suggesting that I open the app and start tracking my run from within the app and then go into my tracker on my wrist at the same time and start tracking the run there? It sounds like that's what you're saying, and then somehow the data will get merged to show up as one workout record in my app with a map heart rate and all other information merged as one. Is that correct?

I will say that in the past when I have tried that it shows up as two completely separate workout records in my app when I'm done. Two different maps in two different sets of data, with very different distance measurements and one showing heart rate data and the other one not. Please explain.
