When I receive a message notification I tap it, then tap open and then notification clears but does not ever show the actual text message.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention and for the information that was shared in your post. To better assist you with this, can you please let me know which Fitbit device are you using? Also, which mobile device are you using to sync your Fitbit? If you haven't already done so, please restart your Fitbit device.
