At some point in the last 2 weeks I noticed that my fitbit app started draining battery where it's consistently number one user of energy. This may have happened after a software/firmware update which I did recently. Any suggestions what I can do to reduce the battery usage?
This is Charge 3 + Pixel 2
Some concomitant changes I noticed
- In the notifications I see "Connected, GPS is running" at all times
- It started counting my biking as "steps" so my step usage jumped a lot

I experienced Fitbit App battery drain as well after applying the Android 9 security patch May 5 2019. I had not experienced the batter drain prior to this update and my fitbit is NOT currently syncing with the Fitbit app. I'd say this an App / Android problem.

Welcome to the Fitbit Community @grumpy43!
While reading your post I was wondering if the mobile device you're syncing with is included in our list of supported devices? You can see the list at: Which phones and tablets can I use with my Fitbit watch or tracker? If so, please see: Why won't my Fitbit device sync?
In regards to the battery drain on your phone, as mentioned, this situation is being escalated to the team so that it can be looked into and all information is being passed on. Can you please send a screen shot as the one from @yaroslavvb?
Also, in the meantime, I'd suggest turning off your phone's Bluetooth and try enabling it only when syncing your Fitbit to your Fitbit app to see if the battery keeps draining fast.
I'm looking forward to your reply.

Please don't worry about syncing, I am purposefully not syncing.
I tried to attached a screenshot before and failed, I don't understand this forum and it looks like a post cannot be edited 😞
Here's a link to an image.
