Versa 2 Not Receiving Notifications from Samsung Galaxy J7 (Verizon Prepaid)

I purchased my Versa 2 yesterday and got it set up. The Fitbit app does work with the Versa 2, I can change clock faces, use Spotify, etc. I just don't receive any text/call alerts. I've tried un-pairing and re-pairing the Versa 2 but that's not helped.

 

I went through my phone settings for notifications, app settings, etc and nothing was off or silenced/muted. I changed text messaging apps too.

 

I don't know if this is normal but looking at Bluetooth settings shows the Versa 2 as paired but does not show it as a connected device like it does with all other devices but again the app is communicating with the watch.

 

Please help, I really don't know what to do at this point.
