Versa 2 adding tons of steps in AM when not walking allot

Trying to get ahold of Customer Service with no success, anyway at least once a week my Versa 2 will add around 6,000 steps when I let the dog out in the AM, maybe 75 steps. Any solutions besides throwing in garbage and buying a different brand?
