when i try to download it, it says to ensure my fitbit and phone are both up to date and they both are up to date

If you haven't already done so I recommend you to check if the firmware update of your Versa Lite is up to date following the steps that are specified on this help article. Then, please try a restart process and check the information that's specified on: How do I install and manage apps on my Fitbit watch?.
