Version 3 - Premium Sleep Data

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I'm extremely disappointed how Fitbit have decided to lock away user's own sleep data behind a Paywall subscription.

Subscription for:

* Audio & Video Workouts

* Guided Programs

I totally understand because they're added features to enhance/supplement the tracker but

* Premium Insights

So I can see my sleeping heart rate, my own data from the tracker, is pretty rude.

I bought the tracker specifically for sleep data and there was nothing in the website to indicate that it is or will be accessible behind a paid subscription fee @ $14.99/month AUD... to access my sleeping heart rateScreenshot_20190714_100524_com.fitbit.FitbitMobile.jpgScreenshot_20190714_101349_com.fitbit.FitbitMobile.jpg

@LarryFish Because it was free in version 2.95 and they locked it in version 3.0

Because it's our own data, which the tracker used to record

No, you didn't. I'm sure you'll still have access to all the sleep data
you had before and the cost will only be for nice measurements. Everybody
on this forum needs to stop being such a diva. Perhaps you're all bots.
(I suspect many are.) Now carry along with acting like a spoiled
teenager.

I've downloaded version 3.1 and the change log is fixing things like the ability to change Calories <-> Kilojoules

@LarryFish You should go through my previous posts and find I help out a lot of people on this forum and have been a strong advocate for Fitbit. I have provided a lot of information to assist the moderators and have created cheat sheets (see my signature as an example). You can say what you will about people always whining but I have contributed more than others. When it comes to data which was previously available in older version but now locked behind an expensive subscription, I believe the users have the right to be angry.

You're "sure" you have access to all sleep data? Have you actually done some testing like some of us on the thread or are you just being a keyboard warrior saying we're overreacting? I've been doing multiple tests on different phones to confirm these changes.

Perhaps provide insightful data and tell us what app version you are running and what you see.

The cost includes a whole bunch of other stuff that I don't want and don't need. Stuff that I believe would be worth the cost to those that want/need it. As I have made clear, this isn't a deal breaker for me, I just see it as petty to keep such simple information behind a paywall. Calling people with grievances that you may not share spoiled teenagers doesn't automatically make you some paragon of maturity. Also, calling the comments a version of "fake news" by bots also doesn't reflect well on you, but I suspect you don't care what people think of you and so I am probably talking to a brick wall.

Last time I checked a Fitbit Charge 3 was not free!

As we have all said, we are happy to pay for extra features such as a coach or something like that, but data from the activity tracker is the primary reason to purchase a fitness tracker, and to have some of that data locked up after the fact is not ok.

This is not about wanting something for free, it's about thing we have already paid for being locked away behind a pay wall.

Okay confirmed:

I have another tracker linked to a different phone (with a different account) tested.

Version 3.x definitely has this information (Sleeping Heart Rate + Restlessness) behind a paywall subscription.

Tested with 3.0 (20213406) & 3.1 (20213407)

Rolled back to 2.95 (20213397) and can verify both Sleeping Heart Rate + Restlessness data is available to the user without paying subscription.

If you still have 2.95, don't upgrade to 3.x

If you have 3.x, roll back to 2.95 until Fitbit decide to provide this data to us.

thanks. def will not.

For clarity I'll provide screenshots:

Version 2.95Version 2.95 - Data accessibleVersion 2.95 - Data accessible

Version 3.xVersion 3.1 - Data locked behind subscriptionVersion 3.1 - Data locked behind subscription

In 2.95 you just went to the sleep data individual day and scrolled down below the sleep stages (Graph with time spent in each stage of sleep)

In 3.0 there was a sleep score front page which was divided in to 3 sections providing a score for each (Time Asleep, Deep and REM, Restoration)

In 3.1 it appears this was removed? And looks similar to 2.95, having the sleeping heart rate and restlessness below the sleep stages graph again.

Is there an easy way to roll back to 2.95 or do I have to source the specific ee-pii-kee from somewhere? Smiley Sad

@kevinMario The latter. Did you realise that the forum bans the "Android Application Package" file extension acronym, too? A simple google search for the product name, version # with "android package" should suffice.

Best Answer

Ahahaha yes hence why I had to resort to referring it as ee-pii-kee instead of the 3 word acronym ;(

Disappointing really, they were doing a great job up until now.

This looks similar with ps4 asking you to get ps plus to play fifa online.

Fifa online is part of fifa and on pc is free

i am all set. still waiting for the advertised spo2 sensor to work which is why i upgrade my tracker.  lmao, and now you all are rolling out subscription services?  why would i give fitbit anymore money? toodles.

Fitbit,

Its absolutely not fair to sell a quality tracker, and then make customers pay to access some of their data. What's worse, is you remove access after letting us have this data for free.

Why have you done this, fitbit?? The sleeping heart rate and restlessness data is already being tracked and you already had the app interface set up to display the data to users, so it shouldn't cost you anything to let us keep viewing sleeping heart rate and restlessness data.

While you might have made money through customers paying for a premium subscription, you have now ended up with a lot of irate customers, which has an immeasurable cost.

Fitbit, can you please reconsider your actions, and give us back this data.

I was using 2.95 still with the old display but I noticed that since 3.1 was available that the synching with my charge 2 became awful. Sometimes I got the fitbit not responding message or the synch would take so long my phone shut down. Sometimes it looked like the synch had connected but despite the green indicator it hadn't.

Then I would have to synch twice to get all my data up to date.

Do you think these events are just coincidental to my reluctance to update?  I have now updated and full speed has resumed.

I had the 2.95 old version but when I went to 3.x, I was able to search online for the 2.95 new display install file and have been using this. Sync speeds are no different.

Submitted content: I am still on the old but I have always had that problem since I have had fitbits. it would take a few swipes to get it to actually sync. usually takes about 2 to 3 attempts for it to work.
