mobile run with data off - offline

hi

https://help.fitbit.com/articles/en_US/Help_article/2099

i've a question about mobile run, if i turn off data and bluetooth during the exercise/walk, leaving gps on (to save battery) and only turn it back on when i do the sync, would mobile run still work correctly?

or do i need to connect (bluetooth & data) and sync at the beginning and end of exercise/walk to allow mobile run to work offline?

thanks in advance

@ag88, you do not have to have Bluetooth turned on for Mobile Run to work, but there is no real benefit to turning it off since it doesn't really cause any battery drain. GPS causes a lot more battery drain than Bluetooth does.  Whether or not you need data enabled probably depends on your phone.  On my phone if I do not have cell service, such as when hiking through a national forest, I also do not have GPS service such as Google maps, etc.  But, using the GPS has very minimum impact on your data service.

hi larry, thanks for your response.

the main thing that i switch off is cell 3G/4G data. Because on Android there are apparently various apps which is 'chatty' while running in background. They are a big battery drain (more so than do GPS) and consume unnecessary paid bandwidth, i could leave bluetooth on but i'd guess it'd make little difference and i'm not sure if some other non-fitbit apps may try to use the bluetooth radio, wasting battery

having GPS on for the purpose may well be useful/relevant unfortunately i do agree that this limits one to rather short/limited period usage as periodic polling of GPS do drain the cell battery

just tried it today both data & bluetooth off, gps on during the walk, but the mobile run session is apparently correctly recorded. sync is done later in the day over wifi+bluetooth and the session apparently shows up correctly on the portal dashboard.
