I have this notification that will not go away saying that "Fitbit is running in the background". I've checked all the other threads and information about this new update. I've tried all those 'solutions' with no success. When I hit the 'DONE' button on the notification after long-pressing, nothing happens. I see where "All-day Sync" will have the constant notification, so I turned it off. I edited my settings in both the Fitbit app and my phone. How do I make this **** message go away and not come back??? Anybody having the same problem or know of something that might actually work?? Thanks!

Hi, I've been having the same issue it's been really annoying me too. If you long press the notification button, hit all categories instead of done. This will then open the Android System notifications settings. Scroll down and select Apps running in the background, tap importance and change it to low. The notification will now disappear. Hope that helps. James

Also I have tapped the Notification message on the phone, gone to Battery, then Manage Battery Usage and turned off Background Activity to see how that affects my phone battery
I found this morning with a lengthy wheelie sync time my phone battery was depleted at 1%/minute..
I have only had V2.65.1 for 2 days and Android 8 was yesterday update.

@LovelyLou I don't have any issues with the Android 8. It hardly affects the battery life as per these screen shots. In the first image the Fitbit usage is the last item not shown @1%

I was able to get the notifications to go away under the fitbit app settings.
General
Notifications
Turned call and text message notifications off. I assume this is the reason why the app is constantly running so the fitbit can vibrate when you receive a call/text on your cell.

All these suggestions on this thread don't make this wretched icon go away on my phone.
i would love to attach an image, but this messaging tool this user forum uses asks some pretty odd questions when you want to attach an image (source? dimensions? what the hell?)
MAKE IT SIMPLE!
Like maybe a clear way to get rid of useless notification icons

@LovelyLou Somewhere in the Forums a user gave us the answer and it was to hold your finger on the messages and then an option comes up to turn it off. Each in turn.
Worked for me..

I completely agree! I have to keep turning the darn thing off every two
hours! It's like a habit now. Ugh. Stupid updates! I've done all the
suggestions. I refuse to uninstall my Fitbit app!!!

@LovelyLou Does silencing mean, you don't see the messages. On my phone I don't see any messages or the icon.

It did not ok for me, it only silence it. I even went into the settings of
Fitbit, no change.

Holding the message until it prompts to turn off or similar worked for me.. That was a few weeks ago and still no notifications.

Hi there everyone and thank you for your help on this topic @Colinm39. This notification of running in the background could be related to two reasons.
The first is related to the Fitbit app, beginning with the release of Android 8.0 (Oreo), Google changed the way you’re notified about apps running in the background on your phone. If your phone is running the Android 8 operating system, you’ll receive a Fitbit Sync Service alert on your phone to inform you that the Fitbit app is running in the background.
This can be disable though, so for more details please review this help article: Why is the Fitbit app sending a notification to my Android phone?
The other, will depend on your phone. In some devices, the same option that I mentioned before is available directly in the notifications setting of the Android device. This option is called Sync Services. Can be found in the Phone Settings > Notifications > Fitbit App. I was having the same message and doing these steps, I was able to remove the notification in the status bar.
If I got more ideas to share, I will visiting this thread.

@RobertoME Not directly related to this but a notification I had never seen before......
I had just sent an email from my phone to my wife and getting ready for my next task.... The Ionic buzzed... "Last email not sent".. 😊 A very positive notification...

Hi there @Colinm39 and @LovelyLou. Awesome to see your participation in the Fitbit Community.
@Colinm39 thank you for bringing this to my attention. This notification was received on your Ionic right? It is possible this is related to the app notification functionality. If you have your email app configured in the app notifications settings, it is probably you received all notifications from your inbox, including emails that were not sent.
Keep me posted how it goes and if the issue persists or if this is affecting any other functionality of your Ionic.
See you all around and see you until the next opportunity.

@RobertoMENo concern for me. I thought it was a wonderful notification that the email hadn't been sent. In this case the email was important..
Maybe it's a combination of the latest OS and Android 8.
