Hi all,
Not sure where I should post this or whether fitbit staff check these forums, but I thought I would flag up some issues I've noticed using the android app. Note I'm using a charge HR with v.122 and app version 2.21.2 (2182918) running on Android 5.1.1. Also note I've restarted phone and tracker, these issues are independent of this.
1. Whenever I open the app I get a splash screen with a progress bar with the message "upgrading database... this step requires an internet connection". A step which friend's apps don't seem to have at least not every time. Does it really need to ugrade the database if i've opened the app 30 seconds ago?
2. Heart rate data: For a while I thought the I did not have access to continuous HR data because of a quirk in the HR section when accessed from the dashboard.
If from the dashboard I select the HR panel (below steps, above distance), I reach a screen which, in the top half, has a historical graph of resting heart rates and in the bottom half has a list of continuous HR data for complete days with a hard to read plot as an image for each day. If I touch on one of these days *nothing happens*, I cannot access the full graph for that day. *However*, if I first touch the resting heart rate graph in the top half of the screen, such that the resting heart rate graph goes full screen, then exit that full screen, touching a day item from the list of continuous HR data then does allow me to view that data, plotting the data fullscreen. This has to be a bug and should be flagged.
2. a. Not a bug but a request: I note that continuous HR data is the only data in the entire app which when viewed fullscreen does not go into landscape mode. I don't see why this should be the case, surely, if only for consistency, it should do so also for HR data.
3. The recent update to the widget accompanying the app now does not display the number of steps (as in explictly in text), at any size (at least for me), even though the widget template has the number of steps in text on it. I can confirm this is also the case for my gf who is using a different phone running android 4.something (I think 4.4).
Other than that reasonably happy with the whole experience. Let me know if this should be reported somewhere else.
Thanks!
R.

@rs20 If not already done so, I recommend updating to the latest version of the Fitbit App for Android, version 2.21.4. This update and the release notes for updates can be found here.
If you continue to receive the "update database message" with the newest update, I suggest clearing your Fitbit App cache and then giving it another shot. This should also resolve the issue around the heart rate graphs.
To make the heart rate graph go into landscape mode, you must click on the bracket image at the top right of the graph, as seen in my screenshot below:
Can you share a screenshot of what you're seeing with the widget as of the latest update? That would be awesome to see so I can share it out with our engineering team if it is currently an issue.

@ErickFitbit Thanks for getting back to me.
Just to confirm I am now using the latest app v 2.21.4 and have cleared the cache. However, nothing has changed.
To reiterate:
1. Get updating database message on starting the app every time. It looks like this:
2. I need to 'fullscreen' the resting heart rate graph before the app allows me to examine day by day HR data. So I need to click on the top graph in this shot before anything happens when I click on the day by day HR data in the lower half
3. When day by day HR data is fullscreen (by pressing the bracket image you are talking about) it goes *fullscreen* but it doesn't go *landscape*. Unlike when viewing steps active minutes etc. which has almost the exact same experience but does go landscape when the bracket button is pressed. So when I click on the bracket button on this screen:
it displays full screen like this:
but does not look like this (the analogous steps page when you click the bracket button):
Note: It turns out the widget issue, one that others have noticed (see parent message board), is that the widget only displays the number when the widget is sized large enough. And the consensus seems to be that that size is too large.
Thanks,
R.

@rs20 On my Sony Z1 I'm having no issues, but with the database looking for the Intenet there is a known issue on my Sony if I have WiFi and Bluetooth on while attempting to sync. I get similar messages, like "can't connect to Fitbit.com, unbeleivable sync failures etc.
I have to turn off WiFi...

@rs20 For the database issue, I suggest trying to turn off the WiFi and viewing the app on your mobile network as @Colinm39 has suggested to try.
As for having to click on the resting heart rate graph before being able to click on the day-to-day graphs, I recommend removing the app and reinstalling. Hoping that will help out.
The portrait view for the day-to-day enlarged heart rate graph is expected behavior, see mine below:
The widget issue is different on a device-by-device basis. Personally, my Galaxy Note 5 displays the numerical value along with the image fine while on a 1x1 size. I've definitely provided the feedback to our Android team and will make sure to share yours as well.
