zip gets recognised but doesn't pair

The Android version of the app recognises the zip but doesn't connect.

Have you checked that your android device is supported by fitbit at www.fitbit.com/devices ?

No, I haven't checked as the zip (the most basic fitbit device) and my phone (Samsung Note 2; Android version 4.4.2) were pairing till last month.

I would be surprised if this phone model / Android version have been bumped off by the march of technology!

You're right - if it used to work then there's no reason for it to stop working.

 

I assume then you are having problems trying to sync rather than setting up your fitbit. If so, the first thing to try is a restart using this procedure:

Well, just checked - and, it would seem that technology hasn't yet made my phone / OS version obsolète the zip!

Just to list the steps I have taken so far:
1) restarted the zip
2) restarted the app
3) rebooted the phone
4) uninstalled and reinstalled the app

Nothing has worked so far.

Sounds like you've tried all the normal troubleshooting. It might be worth trying the restart a few more times as it's known to not always work. Failing that it may be time to contact customer support:
