Accessing music while in the Exercise mode

Is there a way to access switching music (spotify) while in the exercise mode. When I am not in the workout setting I am able to control my music from my phone but once I am in the workout mode it doesn't let me access this feature.

To access music controls when not in the exercise mode the user would hold in the left button. This is the same while in exercise mode.
