I've read several posts about voting for rowing as a future exercise option, but am wondering what is the best exercise to select while that's not available. I'm planning to start using the rowing machine at the gym and am not sure how to best track that and if a certain exercise would be more sensitive to that movement than something else.

I would say that for any activity that is not listed in the exercise shortcuts or that doesn't have a similar alternative, you can use the Workout option. This is basically a general category and that should work well for any of these exercises. Try it out and see how it goes.
