Biking and step / floors count. Pointless?

I know has been raised a few times but I was wondering if anything new has come to light on this?

I just used my Blaze for the first time on a bike ride and set the activity going manually under Exercise -> Bike. I still had 30 floors and 4000 steps recorded in the app when I finished. Why can't the app override the steps taken during an activity like cycling? I've even tried adding a second manual cycle activity in the log covering the same time frame but that doesn't reduce the step count either. The tracker / app knows I was cycling so it really shouldn't be recording steps until I tell it I've stopped cycling.

I use a Garmin too that's linked to Strava which also imports into Fitbit. I had hoped to replace the Strava import with the Fitbit one which would have the maps in there too. It looks like I might be as well disabling the Bike exercise on the tracker if it's going to be crediting me with unearned floors and steps.

As a side note, the app says that I had 39 mins in peak, 20 mins in cardio, and 13 mins in fat burn when using the data from the tracker. However the data when merged with the Strava data via MyFitnessPal (time, calories and miles) gives 15 mins peak, 9 mins cardio, 26 mins fat burn. All from the same data. The times from the tracker total the actual ride length (72 mins) the times in zones from the Strava data only total 50 mins. 22 mins missing although it says 1hr 12min total time. Very confusing.

Welcome to the Community @GrumpyCyclist. Have you tried using the SmartTrack feature to track your exercise? If you haven't, I recommend using this feature which will automatically register the information while you are cycling.

I hope this helps, let me know the outcome. Woman Happy

Hi @AlejandraFitbit. Apologies for the late reply. The problem with SmartTrack is it doesn't connect to the phone assisted GPS so you lose the additional "benefit" of the maps being included in the data. I'd just assumed that actually telling the device before starting that I was about to be cycling would automatically cancel out all steps used until I told it I'd stopped cycling.

It seems related to the amount of vibration the tracker detects through the frame while on the bike I think. I went for another, flatter, smoother ride recently but of a longer duration - twice as long - and only about 500 steps were recorded in error as opposed the almost 4000 on the other ride.
