My Blaze now always starts the day with at least 280 (the number actually ranges) calories already having been burned. This is what it is on before I even put the device on. I do not sleep with the device. It used to start out at "0" like all the other settings. I have re-started and made sure everything is up to date. Should I re-set the device?

The unit/app keeps track of ALL your calorie expenditures, including BMR (Base Metabolic Rate), which is those calories you burn just to keep your body going. The software uses your stats to estimate your BMR. Any activity you do gets added on top of the BMR. You can manually track individual activities or let the automatic tracking take over to find out what you expend on individual exercises. BMR is automatically calculated because many want to use the total calorie expenditure to determine food intake for weight control.
