Am I wrong or is it true that when Blaze is in exercise mode you can't toggle to other functions? When I tapped screen it stopped the current exercise - this is stupid!

While on a run I'm able to see the current stats of the run and the time of the day, and any text messages that pop up. When on a walk/run even text messages are more than i care to see, phone calls can also wait.

Don't have the Blaze yet so I could be wrong but I would assume that's false. You should be able to see GPS data and control music while using the blaze and exercising.

I was just wondering the same thing!  I went for a run yesterday and used exercise mode, but could not control my music at the same time.  I could toggle through the pace/ time/ distance, but could not go back to music control without completely stopping exercise mode.

Any solutions?

While on exercise mode, hold in the top right button to get to music control

That's interesting. I'm off to the gym tonight so I'll try it out. I have an iPhone 5s

That works, thanks much!

Whilst in exercise mode, you should be able to toggle between stats that are relevant to that activity (pace, steps HR, etc.), but won't have access to much of the functionality of Blaze outside of exercise mode.

Music control should still function normally, just be sure to press/hold the button at the top right corner.

Is there anywhere on the fitbit site that I can go to for an explanation on how fitbit is defining the different exercise categories? For example, I'm not sure whether or not I should use workout, bootcamp, or circuit training for HIIT type workouts with weights. Understanding Fitbit's definition and the underlying functionality would assist me in properly determining the best one to use.

Best Answer

@runwithnewmedia Depends on what type of exercises you are doing.

  • Bootcamp would be appropriate if you are doing body weight calisthenic exercises like push ups, lunges, and crunches.
  • Circuit training might be more appropriate for resistance training using high-intensity aerobics.
  • Workout is appropriate for any workout that doesn't fit into any of the workout shortcuts; think rowing, basketball, baseball, etc.

Hope this provides some clarification.

@DerrickS Thanks for the response, Derrick!

Still not super clear to me, however. Is there anywhere to go for an official definition of the exercise types? (according to Fitbit)?

I tried out the music controls while in excerse mode last night. All worked correctly. Just press and hold the top right button and then you have access to pause skip back skip forward and of cause volume up and down. I was also using a Bluetooth head set and found no problems.
I think this blaze is awesome 😊

I could not see steps, but maybe it is becasue I used "workout" for volleyball.  I guess what you are saying is that if I use "run" it will show steps on the blaze, then on the app I can change the name to volleyball?

Would be nice to list our own excersise. Like one that we do regularly that is not on the list.

I never thought about it but which excercise mode would you advice for a zumba class?

That's what I wanted to add! Zumba. We should be able to add our own.

And the calories look way off; 120 calories for 30 minutes exercise looks to be underestimated...

You can create custom labels. If you do it as a workout and then go into the computer dashboard and give it a custom name, then next time you will be able to categorize the activity with your custom name in the app. Even though workout does not show steps, you will still be able to see them after the workout syncs.

Better to do it as a walk if you want to see steps, just make sure your GPS connection to your phone is off.  With "workout" you cannot see steps.
