Blaze can provide Call, Text, and Calendar notifications so that you can stay connected!

This post will provide instructions on how to setup your alerts so that you can see who's texting you, the content of the messages, who's calling, and what your calendar has on deck for you. For a detailed overview of alerts for Blaze, please see this help page

Setup Steps:

  1. Make sure that your mobile device is compatible with our notifications feature by visiting http://www.fitbit.com/devices
  2. On your mobile device, make sure Bluetooth is enabled, and make sure your device is nearby! Note that you'll only receive notifications on your tracker when your mobile device is within this radius.
  3. Open the Fitbit app on your mobile device and tap your tracker tile at the top of your mobile dashboard.
  4. Tap your tracker tile a second time, tap Notifications, and then turn on call notifications.
  5. To verify that set up was successful, look at the list of Bluetooth-connected devices on your mobile device. Your tracker name should appear.

Using Alerts:

You can easily see all of your alerts by swiping up from the home screen. Here, you'll see previous incoming calls, text messages for the day, and calendar alerts as well. You may delete these alerts either individually or all at once.

Notes

  • For Android users, please ensure that you've turned notification access on in your settings and enabled each notification in the Fitbit App. Please also ensure that message preview is toggled on in your phone's settings, as this should help populate the message content.
  • iOS users should allow reception of text notifications in their Notification Center settings, in addition to the workflow for alerts in the Fitbit app for iOS.
  • Calendar notifications use the native calendar app in iOS, and the native or select 3rd party apps on Android.
  • Windows Phones don't support alerts at this time.
  • Fitbit trackers currently don't support emojis. Notifications containing emojis will show a blank square, instead of the emoji that was sent.
  • Text messages won't show up if the message app is open on your phone.
  • When using Message+, your Fitbit tracker will show a notification that looks something like this: (Contact Name – 1 New Message). This is because when messages are received in Message+, they're stored that way in the notifications center on Android.
  • If you receive more than one text message in succession from the same person, your tracker may group the messages together as "2 New Messages" or "3 New Messages" instead of showing a preview of the message text.

I stopped worrying about notifications. Simply because I purchased it as a fitness watch. So therefore I quit getting upset. Would I like notifications? Yes. However, Fitbit's customer service is horrid and they don't seem to care about your issue. Why? Because they got your money.

I think I figured it out. I shut off the notifications on my fitbit, then I rebooted my phone. Once the phone was up for a minute, I turned the notifications back on. Ever since then I've been getting only one notice per alert (phone text, calendar notice and the like).

@scottchabala72 I am with you and agree.  When my notifications work, great, if not, it isn't a huge deal!  Although I do like to figure out how it works.  I like the direction they are taking it, and I think it will get better.  As for their customer service, personally, I have only experienced good service.  But I think when it comes to stuff like this that has so many other factors involved (different messaging apps, different phones, etc.), they can't help every situation. But when I had a one, and I lost it, they replaced it.  They care about their product, and I think they do want happy customers.

@jackson1223 When I receive two when using Chomp SMS as my messaging app, it is one message without the time sent, and then another message with the time sent.  I have a feeling it is something with the way Chomp SMS is handling the notifications, because the Samsung Messaging app (I have a Note 5) does NOT duplicate the notifications on my Blaze.  So it is two of the same message individually.  I have recieved the "two unread messages", and for me it happens when I haven't read one from my phone and it builds up.  I could clear the notification from my Blaze, then get another message, and if 3 unread on phone, then will communicate to my Blaze, 3 unread.  Think of it this way... There is no communication back to your phone about anything you do with the notifications on your Blaze, so every time there is a new message, for me, it alerts about all the older ones that I haven't cleared yet from my phone.  Something interesting to add here as well... When a second message comes in, and I haven't cleared the first from my phone, I do NOT get a duplicate message on the Blaze.  I think it is because it sends the first as a "two messages unread" notification, then a second with the first/second messages with the actual messages.  So I THINK why I am seeing two messages of the same text is that first notification is a "one new message" kind of notification but it sends along the message text as well, then the second with the time stamped on it is the actual message notification.  Hope this makes sense :).  But that is what I have found for me.  I use Fit Notification as well, which works great, but doesn't change how the text messages come through.  Comes through the same, but it also allows me to get alerts from Voxer, Telegram, etc.

For those who have experienced "notifications just stopped coming to my Blaze", what I do when this happens is I make sure notifications is turned on from the Blaze.  Swipe down, verify notifications is on.  Then I sync the Blaze from my phone.  And I start getting notifications again.  Not sure how the notifications gets turned off.  Maybe it is a feature when Blaze battery goes low, it turns off notifications to conserve.  But not sure without any help from someone at FitBit.

Also, if you ever change your default messaging app, be sure to change in Blaze settings on phone to use that messaging app.  For me, when I change default messaging app, it doesn't matter, because my text messages point to Fit Notification app, and then in Fit Notification app, I checked all messaging apps just so I don't have to remember to go in and change if I change the default messaging app.

@Jamiesouth @SunsetRunner @Daigle16 @HullBlaze @scottchabala72 @Lil_tor I suggest trying out the troubleshooting tips in this help article. Let me know if that helps or if you get stuck at any point during the process.

@Weezy0212 @bwranik Which text messaging app are you using as your default? I've heard of users using Message+ experiencing similar symptoms and success with using Google Hangouts as the default in the phone and Fitbit app's notifications settings.

@shark37 Which mobile device are you using? Is it Android, iOS, or Windows phone?

@ddaniszewski Thank you for the update, glad to hear you were able to get it resolved.

Don't think the device will ever provide accurate notifications. They just don't. Unfortunately.

I am little leary of turning on notifications because the notification to verify you're sure you want to do this has a message about the notification service will be able to read all notifications posted by the system or any installed app, which may include personal info such as contact names and the text of messages sent to you. Isn't this a privacy issue?

Can it READ my texts?

Also, why isn't the LG G4 listed? It's been out quite a while now....
