Blaze Water Resistance

Time and time again we have asked you people to make the device Water Proof.

Why can't you get it through your thick skulls that there are water sports/activities.

Can I wear my Blaze while swimming?

Fitbit Blaze is rain, sweat, and splash proof. We recommend that you do not swim or shower while wearing Blaze.

That really sucks because now I will not be able to track my swim strokes while I am in the water at the beach.

Just try it. I had no issues for over a year now and I took my Fitbit blaze
to hot tubs, pools, ocean.

I understand the Blaze isn't waterproof for swimming or showering, but I will be doing the Rugged Maniac 3 mile obstacle course in June. I have been told there are some sections where there is mud and puddles/water areas that have to cross through.  Knowing that the Blaze is sweat, rain and splash proof, am I going to damage my Blaze doing this obstacle course if it gets mud or water on it? I don't intend to ever fully submerge it

I have to say the blaze and some of these trackers arnt really accurate half the time. One day i spent most of my time in the car and hit my goal it was crazy. I love my blaze i think its awesome. Maybe next idea should be a fitbit peice for the ankle sine our legs do most of the work as it is and waterproof. Then that would be the s**t. 😝

I would like to point out that other watch manufacturers don't seem to have a problem designing products that can do both functions. For example:

http://www.casio.com/products/watches/sports/sgw450h-1a

A cursory Google search shows that many other companies have done this:

https://www.google.com/#q=waterproof+altitude+watch

Maybe Fitbit could get in touch with one of these other companies to find out how they made it work.

However, that being said, I like Fitbit and I still want a Blaze, but it would be far more useful to me if it were waterproof.

I have a fully waterproof watch with an altimeter on it, so iam puzzled how you would lose this feature by waterproofing the watch. I wouldn't mind paying an extra few dollars for a waterproof version cheers mick

@SunsetRunner Waterproofing comes at the cost of altimeter function - air pressure is used to determine things like elevation change, and fully sealing the device prevents this from working. Since our trackers aren't designed to accurately track swimming, there's not much benefit to full waterproofing, especially at the cost of other features. All our trackers are water resistant - Blaze won't be harmed if you wear it in the rain, or if it gets splashed.

I found this info elsewhere,

"Completely waterproof down to 25 feet underwater indefinitely, the Waterproofed Fitbit Blaze has been enhanced on the inside with our durable PlatinumX waterproofing process. Swim, surf and by all means sweat without any worries that your Waterproof Fitbit Blaze can keep up."

I'm off swimming soon but I don't think I'll take the risk of keeping it on.

PlatinumX refers to a type of modified Blaze that is sold by a third party called Waterfi. It costs a lot more than a standard Fitbit, but it does do what Fitbit should be doing anyway, which is offering customers what they want instead of excuses why it can't be done.

I think maybe the sloution here is for Fitbit to produce a strap cage assembly for the tracker to placed into for users, that would like to use it for waterborne activities, understanding that during that time they would loose the barometric element.

I think a waterproof casing would be perfect! Just a little snap on case that goes around the blaze face, with rubber buttons that can be pressed from the outside... much like a plastic casing for a camera. I'm thinking there would have to be a new band to hold this bigger casing, but that's ok.  Perhaps the case could be built into the band, to make it more streamline. Maybe it could pop open, then just drop the blaze face into it and snap it shut. I personally want one because even as an adult, I love waterparks!! I do the pact app and I also track my steps for that app. We all know how many steps are climbed at water parks!

Just my 2 cents 🙂

Sucks I have to take it off at the beach or when I'm floating in the summer or rehabbing in the pool. I usually lose a hole day of data because I have to take it off and leave it at home or on a Beach towel.

That's not true. Garmin Give HR can do steps and is waterproof. How did they do it. How did Apple do it. It's just an excuse. If that is the case then have two versions. I could care less about stairs.

I understand that waterproofing can be challenging, and some features may have to change. However Garmon, Apple, Mio  and other sport trucking companies have seemed to have worked it out.   As it stands we have only one option with Fitbit  and it's rather a bare-bones. We aren't asking for every tracker to be water resistant, just please give us some choice.  Swimming, kayaking, triathlons, surfing,  wildlife conservation, natural resource management; the list goes on. Fitbit  was the benchmark for  fitness trackers, however it's competitors are starting to recognize that different people to different types of activities, and  RESPECT THOSE CHOICES. I don't want to change to a different brand, however I will if I do not have options that fit my, and frankly many other people's lifestyles.   Fitbit is a lifestyle company, I would've thought they would've recognized that  different people  perform different activities by now.
