Blaze accuracy vs Flex accuracy

I received a Blaze in May for my birthday. Before that I was using my dad's old Flex. As soon as I got the Blaze, I noticed a difference between what the Flex had counted and what the Blaze was counting. It looks like I am getting more steps with the Blaze, and I'm definitely getting several times more Active Minutes on the Blaze than I did with the Flex. With the Flex, I could do a walk/run for half an hour, but only get 17 Active Minutes. With the Blaze, though, moderate activity throughout the day often gets me at least half an hour of Active Minutes, sometimes closer to an hour. I'm a teacher, and the Flex never counted any Active Minutes while I was on my feet teaching, but the Blaze counts around a hundred Active Minutes for the same amount of activity! I also notice that the Blaze counts Floors Climbed while I'm driving!

My dad wants his Flex back so he can participate in challenges, but I'm afraid that either the Flex will under-count his activity or the Blaze is over-counting my activity. How can I tell which of these two devices is inaccurate, and what can I do to fix it?

Also--two or three times my Blaze has frozen when I tried to swipe back from the Today screen to the watch face. Each of these times the Blaze restarted itself and then worked correctly afterward. Knock on wood, this hasn't happened in a few weeks.
