You should call fitbit customer service. It should be under warranty and they should send you a new unit at no cost. Good luck

It was one year and two months old, so they would do nothing. I told them the new app seemed to be the problem and they had no response. Planned obsolescence to sell more units. I’ll never buy another one.

Unfortunately a number of other users had a similar problem and the response from Fitbit was next to nothing. I would try again and hope to get someone a little more responsive. Planned obsolescence has been going on for years, Fitbit seems to be taking it to the next level with it’s insensitive attitude.

Although the battery issues and built in obsolescence of many Fitbit devices are well known by owners of Fitbit products, the people already affected, the general public and potential customers are not aware of these issues. As Fitbit do not seem to care about these problems - which they could easily fix by promoting a cost effective battery replacement program - is the only way to encourage Fitbit to act, to start a campaign to publicise this on Twitter?

That might help in time. I personally neither face nor twit, so it'd not have helped me, but ofc many people do those things. My own opinion is that fitbit is a chinese company with foreign sales offices, whose instructions are to obey the barest minimum forced by the applicable laws in each jurisdiction. I don't care to think how they'd behave if there were no such laws at all. Visibility pressure has to be more effective than user complaints, if user complaints have essentially no effect on their operational policies.

Fitbit will allow a certain amount of criticism on this site. However when I made a suggestion to dissatisfied customers which Fitbit didn’t like or as they stated “inappropriate” they removed my post. They can control the post in this community but should have no control over other social media outlets.

They would sometimes send a new unit for the less expensive models but these days, all they would do is offer a 25% discount on selected models (that are not selling well). My advice is to wean yourself away from Fitbit as soon as you can - I went through 5 different Fitbit models these past few years but their lifespan is getting shorter year after year. It's a marketing ploy, planned obsolescence to shorten the replacement cycle, which they probably feel is easier than generating new users and creating market demand.

There are other alternatives or simply stop counting steps and stairs climbed. The ultimate objective is weight loss, improved blood pressure, etc so those are the important tings that are worth measuring.

Thanks for affirming that it’s not just me thinking they are scamming users. I will never buy another one and will use my social media platform to share that info.

You are welcome. I have gone through 3 Fitbits and my wife 2 of them. I am not in the business of helping keep them financially secure. I have not used this type of device for 5 months now, and I use a $35 pedometer which does my steps, has a clock and a few other features and I’m really not missing the fitbit to much. In addition it uses a battery that cost a couple of dollars and you can buy anywhere with a life expectancy of over a year with a 1-2 minute change time. I have gone back to my heart rate monitor at a cost of about $80 which uses the same battery for my workouts. In addition my pedometer works in or on my clothing and accurately measures my steps whereas the $$$ Fitbit measured my arm movements. Good luck!

Hi Lizz, thank you for the response. If my device shows right before and after I unplugged 100% fully charged, and I can confirm that with the app after I finish the sync, and if I am taking all the steps you are recommending here, shouldn’t my battery last  at least 1 day? The specs when I purchased said up to 5 days of battery life. Some times I cannot even make it to four hours?

Bill, ive changed mine for a brand new battery. Am still having the same issue with it. Fitbit must put a bug in the updates to crash the charger point in the watch. This is the second one that has done it.

Best Answer

Hi wendy, you can buy the battery for the fitbit watch. It 2 cables, 1 red 1 black unsolider and replace with the new battery.

I believe fitbit put a bug into the update to crash the charging point in the watch. So people go out and buy another.

It’s definitely something happening. I had purchased 3 and right on the 1 year anniversary purchase I would noticed acting up. Thankfully the store I purchased from allowed me to return on the first 12 months. My third unfortunately, right after 12 months started acting up, contacted fitbit via chat once and they asked me to “plug to PC again” it magically made it work despite all my previous attempts to troubleshoot connected to a PC. After that I knew something was up because a couple months passed and right after an update the charge will not hold a full day. I am lucky if I put it on in the morning and can go till lunch time. I am finally giving up the hope. After all these months and more negative posts from other consumers, it makes NOT hard to think that there is something going on and that FitBit is aware of it.

Aniux,

I replaced the battery myself and still having the same issue with the battery. Fitbit sent an update out to affect the charger inside the watch. This can't be proven but with all the comments, its looking likely.

I got nowhere with Fitbit. Refuse to give them anymore of my money. Went back to my old pedometer and a heart rate monitor for my workouts. Both worked fine in the past and continue to work now. That was my answer

They don’t even make Fitbit watches anymore, they have newer models but very expensive.  My iPad Air2 is the same; wont keeps charge more than an hour!

I just don’t know where to go from here!!!

All batteries eventually wear out. At least with the iPad, you can take it
in and get the battery replaced. Fitbit needs to do the same thing, imo.
There is no justification for the business model that people will simply
chuck and replace their trackers after a year or two. Provide a battery
replacement service for a reasonable price and EVERYONE wins. I cannot
understand why they do not do this. You can see from all the passionate FB
users (and soon to be former FB users), that this is a necessary thing. A
company that burns the goodwill of its customers does not stay in business
for long. I heard last week that FB is exploring some kind of merger with
Google. Hopefully, Google will set them straight. My preference would be
for Apple to buy them out.
