Blaze exercise categories

I want to take my snazzy new Blaze on a challenging hike.  My iPhone will be with me, GPS and Bluetooth will be enabled and working, and I want to wind up with a map of where I've been.  I've seen other folks say their devices offer exercise categories like "walk" and "hike," but those aren't offered on my Blaze.  I have only "run" and "bike" that will use GPS.  Should I just call my hike a "run"?  I definitely will NOT be running!

Thanks, Ed

Then open the Fitbit app up, click on Blaze, then click again on Blaze, scroll down to exercise shortcuts and add walk and hike. Now the app will schedule a Sync.

I do three different workouts along with running.  What are the categories I should use?

Upperbody workout (with light weights) with some ab workouts

Core workout (abs and pushups)

Lowerbody workout (lunges, squats, etc....) with some ab workouts and pushups

I used to just do the exercise mode on my Charge HR and then name them.

Hello @RDriesenUD have you tried letting SmartTrack detect your activity?  Then you can edit the name on your exercise log.  For the exercises you do along with running I would use the workout option on my Blaze and then edit the information after syncing.

Hope this helps! 🙂

What is the definition of a hike vs. a walk?  Today I went on a walk, selecting Walk on my Surge, and when I looked at the dashboard, it was recorded as a hike.  It was about 1 hour, 2.5 miles.

I don't think there really is a difference, maybe some extra data is displayed, but it sounds like you chose hike and not walk.

No, I chose Walk.  It probably doesn't make much difference, but I would like to know what is the actual Fitbit definition of a Hike vs. a Walk.  Is it the length in miles, the time, or what?  For myself, I would tend to consider a hike as taking place in a park or preserve, and a walk on regular streets, but I am sure that is not the distinction for Fitbit.

Hello @HBF it's great to have you here! I would like to ask some questions to better understand your issue. Can you let me know if your activity was recorded automatically by SmartTrack or did you choose the activity from the exercise shortcuts? I would appreciate if you can test your tracker after doing a restart to see if the activity is logged incorrectly.

Let me know how it goes! 🙂

That is what I am doing.  Just wondered if there was something better than just using workout and having to edit it each time.

Hello @RDriesenUD Thanks for stoping by!  Since I mentioned two different ways to record your activity, can you please let me know if you are letting SmartTrack detect your activity or you are using the exercise shortcuts on your Blaze?

Looking forward to your reply! 😉

Hello @RDriesenUD thanks for your reply! I haven't heard of any report about activities logging incorrectly when using the workout option. My suggestion is to restart the tracker and make sure to set the activity you want to track. If after this you are still having issues please contact our support team for assistance.

I never said they were.  I was asking what the best setting was for each of my workouts.  To just use workout or use a specific one.

@RDriesenUD Workout is probably your best option, you can also manually log activities if you feel "Workout" isn't the best fit.
