You should plug it into a wall outlet. It gets hung up on the update/not charged loop if you're trying to charge through a computer.

Great to hear, Lynn.
I gave up on Fitbit Blaze, charging a device shouldn't pose such a challenge. If wall outlet charging is required (suggested by Fitbit Support), it should come with one in the box like my phone did.

Your not going to see any notifacation of it charging until it is setup

Setting it up before charging is not possible because, the Blaze has to be charged before it can be set up.

I just received the Blaze and I am stuck at step 1.  As the tracker had no charge, I tried charging it before I can do the set up.  The product dial was black and blank; it did not show any sign of charging.  I sorted through hundreds of complaints in the Fitbit Community on charging the Blaze and tried the following:

  • Tried hard restart (hold left button and lower right button for 10 seconds)
  • Tried two charging cradles
  • Tried multiple USB wall outlets, laptop USB ports, USB plug adapters
  • Pins aligned in charging cradle
  • Device pressed in and clicked
  • Cleaned the contacts with rubbing alcohol

The product would not light up to show it is charging.  How could a company make an electronic product that would not even charge? If charging is so difficult, how difficult would it be to use the product? I was wondering about the reliability of Blaze's activity tracking as there are major reliability issues on the basic function of this electronic product? How good is this tracker anyway?  Did I buy a product without researching its quality?  Does Fitbit development team ever see the numerous complaints in this forum?

So many people with the same issue, I gave up on Fitbit and got a Garmin, much happier. Waterproof, built in GPS (no phone necessary), and it charged immediately.
I hear to use the wall charger, like for your cell phone. Seems to help a lot of folks out, but not everyone. Fitbit has a wonky product. Best Buy even said they have a lot of returns for Fitbit, compared to other brands.

Right but you will see flashing not a battery icon. When it has enough battery (but not fully charged) the update will kick off if your screen is close to your phone and your phone is on the update screen. At least that worked for me twice.

Good luck.

No flash either. It was as dark as midnight.

If your tracker still shows the setup message, then as mentioned above, there will not be a charging icon when plugging it in. This is completely normal. What you are looking for is a slight vibration when plugging or unplugging the Blaze.

The good news is if you get the message to charge the battery, your tracker has been attached to your fitbit account.

A dead dud Fitbit. Why should charging an electronic product be so
difficult? A 1$ product charges nicely but not this $250 product? If
simple charging malfunctions, how could I trust the sensors and the apps?

0 for 4, 5th at bat tomorrow.

Tried to set it up, same no battery no update issue.( BTW, setting up the android app when you are 60 is real pleasant paging the year 40 times. )

called support they replaced the charger after an hour of troubleshooting

not the charger, called support a week later, after another 30 minutes they promised to send a return authorization email

2 weeks later, no email

This was a gift, bought at bestbuy, tried to return and they would not take it back and said fitbit does not allow replacements

called support again, they are sending another unit, supposed to arrive tomorrow, Father's day in July. 8(

If it doesn't work this time it will be a $200 landfill decoration.

I feel your pain. Luckily Best Buy took mine back (bought the warranty also), and I decided to upgrade to the Garmin Forerunner. I love it, no complaints about it at all.
Some people have no issues with their Fitbit, they are good when they work correctly.

So glad! It is a nice little unit. Too bad it's such a hassle in the beginning. FitBit Product Marketing are you listening?

Having 25 relatives and who knows how many friends and acquaintances with fitbits, i wonder why i have only met 2 people that have mentioned that they have had problems.

There could be a few problem encountered with charting,

The tracker, in which case do a restart

The charging cable, in which case try a different one.

The power source, try a different one.

It seems to be a Blaze specific issue. I have now tried 2 units and am 0 for 2 with the supplied charger.

Both batteries were essentially dead when the box was opened

I tried to charge the first one for several hours on a desktop computer usb, no luck

called support, they sent a new charged, still no luck,

left it charging 24 hours, still no luck,

they sent a second blaze, still no luck. This USB charges my battery hog Galaxy S8 but would not charge the Blaze

I plugged the second unit into a higher power ( the Galaxy 8 fast charger) and after 3 or 4 hours it had a charge. It would then finally update, and then charge from the supplied charger.

I think there is a software / firmware bug not allowing charging from low power sources before it updates. There are 10's if not 100's of entries in this forum with the same issue. ( all Blaze specific). Regular fitbits may be different.

As mentioned, use a wall outlet to charge, not a computer. That should work.

That's all for now...
