I recently was given a Fitbit blaze from a friend who no longer used it. When I go to log in to my account and set up the device, it never gets past the "searching" part of the setup. Is this because it is still connected to my friend's account? Any ideas??

If your friend is nearby then it may be that their phone still has a bluetooth connection that's blocking yours. Get them to remove any connection to the fitbit in their phone's bluetooth settings.
It's also worth checking that your phone is supported by fitbit at www.fitbit.com/devices
