I went for a 10k run yesterday, linked to my iPhone, account shows the distance but not the step count

Without more information on what method you tried to use to track the run, I'm not sure what to say.

 

Were you wearing a Fitbit tracker? Using phone GPS? Using the MobileTrack feature on a compatible device?

Using Phone GPS, normally it works fine

have not changed settings
