I would like to run a half marathon which will take me about 2.5 hours.
I want to know if the blaze or the surge will work better for this.
Battery time on the surge using built in GPS verses Blaze using my phone.
Which combo will give me the most battery life for device and phone while using GPS and music for at least 2.5-3 hours.

Is this an organised half-marathon? I'm just wondering if you need to use GPS at all if it's a set distance.

It'll be fine but It will undercount your miles and steps. This has been a problem and needs an update.

Either should be fine. I'm into cycling, and just finished riding my first 100 mile century in Napa with close to 5000' of climbing (all uphill the first 58 miles). My iPhone 5s (2.5 yrs old, original battery) was running RideWithGPS for 7 hours and 15 minutes (6 hours riding, 1:15 breaks), ended ride at about 7% battery. Could have stretched out battery life even further by putting into iPhone into airplane mode, as that shuts down cellular/bluetooth/wifi radios while leaving GPS running. Another option to extend battery life is to manually put into Low Power Mode (Settings > Battery > Low Power Mode). You might want to test your phone as all batteries are not created equal. My daughter had her 5s battery (same age as mine) replaced for $30 last summer, good as new now.

I can only answer about my Surge and have gone 10 hours with gps turned on, there is no way my android would last this long but I do have a couple of portable chargers.
