I have read several other posts that have reported issues with clapping hands being recorded as step count. This is something that makes the device utility very low and reduces the motivation to wear. I don't know if there is any way to directly submit a 'bug-fix' request to fitibit. If anyone knows, please share.

Speaking from personal experience, I have concluded that anomalies such as this, at least for me*, represent such a small percentage of overall my steps, that in the grand scheme of things, it's not really that big of deal.

PS ^,, Now if I made my living as a professional hand-clapper, I might feel differently. 😉

Exactly! I mean, how many times do you clap your hands a day? Lets go for a big number and say 100 then that is 100 steps towards a goal of 10000, or to put it another way one percent!
If it makes you feel better the device will only start to count after five seccessive steps so just clap four times 😄

The tracker is on the wrist, therefore it is only able to look at and monitor wrist movements. It has no way to know what the feet are doing, it does know that when the feet are walking that there will be certain arm movevments, it is looking for these arm movements and assumed the feet are moving..
There is not arm based tracker on the market that won't count steps with excess arm/hand movements.
