Disable Sleep Stages

Hello, Is there a way to disable sleep stages and revert back to the basic sleep tracking detection? I prefer only having the basic information and am not interested in the stages. I would like the tracker to be less sensitive to times awake as I had it set before. Thank you.

Hi there @Claire03.  Great to see you in the Fitbit Community Forums! 🙂

Sleep Stages is a change that has been implemented across all platforms for your dashboard and will by default appear as such. At the moment, there is no way to revert it back to the old sleep patterns.

If you'd like your tracker to be less sensitive, you can adjust this. On your app, tap on the top right corner of the screen on the dashboard. Scroll down to Settings, tap on Advanced Settings and here scroll down to Sleep Sensitivity. Make sure it's set to Normal and then sync your tracker for it to take the changes.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you need more help!

I agree 100%.  I miss the regular sleep view. At the very least we should be able to toggle between the old and the new.

There is a way....but it involves using a Charge HR to sleep with. (which I have started to do).

I'm not quite sure how accurate either are - the Blaze shows me waking up at every fit & fart, whereas the Charge HR shows a good night's sleep every night I wear it. Which to believe?

I have a third device (Charge HR) which I might add to a separate account, then wear the Blaze on one wrist and a Charge HR on the other....

Hey there @Bittmom @jmattwood! Good to see you around! 🙂

I'd just like to clarify that at the moment, there's no way to revert the sleep tracking back to the old Sleep Stages format. What @jmattwood mentions, has to do more with the capability of each tracker. For example, right now, Sleep stages is only available for three trackers which are the Blaze, the Alta HR and it's been rolled out to a certain number of Charge 2 users. For all other trackers, they don't have Sleep Stages and their trackers will record their sleep as the old Sleep Pattern system.

I was able to find this feature suggestion if you'd like to vote for it which asks for the ability to choose if you'd like to see Sleep Stages or the old Sleep Pattern. You can see the suggestion here.

I would also like an option to disable sleep stages. The graph is really cluttered and confusing compared to the other one where you could really make sense when you have been moving or not during the night.

Hi Claire03

I've found a way to revert to the basic sleep tracking on my Blaze and I'm guessing it would work with any Fitbit tracker with Heart Rate capabilities. I have simply turned off the Heart Rate function in the settings for the Blaze. From my understanding the new sleep tracking uses movement and Heart Rate to track sleep. The old sleep tracking uses movement only. If you're happy to diable able Heart Rate on your tracker each night then this could also be a solution for you until Fitbit provides another solution. Good luck.

Are there plans to be able to choose in the future? The sleep patterns are causing me stress:\

Hi @Claire03. Great to see you in the Forums! You're totally right, if your tracker doesn't register your heart rate, it will not be able to tell your sleep stages and instead, will just give you the old sleep pattern so this is a very good suggestion, thanks for sharing it with us.

@tilly13, great to see you in the Community as well, at the moment, there are still no plans on being able to choose this or not. Keep an eye on the forums for any update.

I would also like to be able to disable sleep stages. The app now says that I am up an average of one hour and 15 minutes per night which is just not accurate. I don't think the "solution"  that you cannot switch back is really a solution at all.  I already have the sensitivity set to normal instead of sensitive and this does not help

Hello @bcpurshe please read @_Josh_'s post 3 entrys above yours for instructions on disabling sleep stages.

Note: following this might throw off the calculated resting heartrate.

Hi @Rich_Laue. You're right it does throw off the calculated resting heart rate. I've been disabling the heart rate monitor before I sleep and enabling it again in the morning for sometime now. My calculated resting heart rate averages a little higher than normal since I've been doing this, since my heart rate during sleep isn't factored in. I guess for me at the moment I am more interested in monitoring my sleep pattern data in the old format so I'm willing to sacrifice resting heart rate data. It is something to consider though especially if calculated resting heart rate data is your preference.

Is there a way to show that you are awake and out of bed, so we can keep track of urination

Hi there @sty7. Welcome to the Community Forums! 🙂

At the moment, your Fitbit tracker will detect when you're awake but will will not tell you exactly that you're out of bed. It has happened to me that I wake up, and go for a small walk to the kitchen or to the bathroom and then go back to sleep it will track the time I was awake as time awake and when I'm back to bed it will continue tracking my sleep in the same log and in the Activity log it will show steps for the time I was awake and walking. Maybe this could work for you.

Let me know if there's anything else you may need.

I had been reading in that the sleep stage was set to normal.

But the reason I was reading that perhaps my watch was not on my wrist correctly. So of all of you just checking in seeing, if the sleep stages was not registered from last night?  If this was my error or the problem was something else. Happy Holidays.

I am totally bummed to learn the Blaze can not convert to the original sleep tracker. I kept thinking it was random and waiting for the Tracker to return - finally go on Helps.  Sigh....as a person with sleeping issues, that report was so much more helpful for monitoring my actual sleep.  I have a Blaze and an iWatch.  Now, I have no longer have need for the Blaze.  😞
