It's an exercise machine that is favoured by many as it's a low-impact activity so gentler on the joints than, say, running on a treadmill. There's lots of info on it, with pictures of what it looks like, at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elliptical_trainer

Thankyou SteveH. Yes we have those at the gym. I used to go on it until I had a knee replacement op and found it a bit painful. But I think I can now return to it. Thankyou. Great help.
