Fit Bit Blaze step count

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I purchase my Fit Bit Blaze over the weekend and the step count doesn't seem to be accurate. Today in the morning it said I had walked 18 steps before even wearing it than when I got to work after driving it said I had walked 441 steps. How can this be possible. Any suggestions on how to fix this. I've read couple discussions and this problem has been happening since the beginning of the year. I was excited to get this as my birthday present but starting to question if it was a good choice. Please help.

The steps you are talking about due to movement of the tracker.  I once crossed 10,000 steps while folding laundry.  There are no pedometers out there are going to catch every step accurately.  They are all basing it on movement, in this case your arm.  The blaze is going to look at your heart rate, at the time of the "step" to determine your calories burned.  Unless your drive is very stressful, it's not going to "burn" too many calories during your drive.

Bottomline all trackers are just estimating calories burned.  None of them are 100% accurate.  80-90% perhaps,  But not 100%

@BaseRunner I'm going to add that for the car drive, it is the bouncing of the vehicle over the road that gives the steps.. Fitbit does give the option to log the time as driving, 441 steps hardly seems worth it considering as @JohnRi points out the Blaze is mounted to the arm and only able to see arm motions.

It is looking for the type of arm movement that the arm does while walking or running. durring other times of the day the arm movements are not consistent enough and can easily fool the tracker, steps while folding laundry. Fitbit has added logic to limit this, without it your ride would have hundreds of more steps. At other times, pushing a cart, carrying a heavy package steps will be missed.

So why are arm mounted tracker a so popular? First it is the I'm not having to remember to take them off the belt, bra, clothing, find them in the dryer after going through the washer, etc. Second is the ability to add features, heart rate, notifacations, more data screens and gps all would not be worth having if it required the unit to be dug out of its hiding place.

Through out the day i think that you will find the extra steps are offset by the missed steps.

When i go for walks it is a different animal, I've counted off 1000 steps and the Blaze is always within 20 steps.

Please relax and remember that Fitbit is only one of the tools availible to help achieve a goal.
