Fitbit blaze steps off by thousands

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I have a friend who is identical in height to me & we have identical stride lengths when stepping next to each other. We volunteer & walk side by side but my steps will be off by thousands. It's not overcounting hers because mine will say I only walk 5,000 when I have been non-stop walking for hours. When I do a step test, it will be off by 20's & 30's. I have no idea what to do. My Fitbit is so off that during a regular day for me, the steps will be under 1,000! Does anyone have the same issue? Does anyone have any idea how to fix this? I have had other devices making near perfect steps but this one is so off it's irritating.

@April2991, your not alone. It took me a few months to adjust my stride length. And I still am off by about 5 percent. You have to remember that our walking stride is different everyday, sometimes we walk faster and sometimes we take our time walking. I walk everyday with friends and my steps are always off compared to my friends steps. I take one step for every two steps they take. I know it sounds crazy but it happens. See link below, it's from Fitbit website. Hopefully this will help in adjusting your stride length.

A warm welcome to the Community @April2991 and @Aclobos thanks for stopping by.

If your tracker is not being accurate, I recommend restarting your Blaze, walk 100 steps and let me know how many it registered. If you want to measure your stride length, you can take a look at this post, where you will be able to see the instructions to follow.

Let me know the outcome. Woman Happy

@Aclobos i got around the stride fluctuations by doing an average.

First i measured a course out by using Google Pedometer (2,53 miles)

Now i walked this course on 5 consecutive days.

I then took the strp count for the 5 days of walking this route and added them together.

Added together 5 days of 2.53 miles to get a distance of 12.6 miles.

Now figured my stride using an online stride calculator using these totals.

Like you say every day it will vary a little but i find it really close ususlly well within 3%

Of course i first did a step test counting out 500 left foot steps, this gives me a 1090 step number to compare the tracker with.

@Rich_Laue, thanks for your info. I'll have to give it a try. for some reason I have not been able to get my steps to equal my distance. It takes me around 1800 steps to equal 1 mile. My blaze always gives me 2000 steps for 1 mile when it's in auto mode. I have a course I walk and it's marked every half mile, when I use the shortcut for walking everything checks out but when I let the auto mode run my steps never equal my distance. I have gotten used to using my shortcut when I go on my walks. I guess nothing can be perfect. Thanks

@Rich_Laue, I guess I used wrong choice of words. The blaze can track your exercise if you don't use your shortcuts. It's called smart track, it automatically detects your exercise. When I put my blaze on and I don't select any shortcuts I just call it auto mode.
